Was the hearing by phone or did Carcillo have to go to NYC?

EDIT: Doesn't make any difference, now.

Dan Carcillo faced disciplinary action today for his bunt delivered to Joni Pitkanen, sending him diving into the boards nearly two minutes into the first period of Friday nights game versus the Carolina Hurricanes at the library known as the RBC Center.

It was decided that Carcillo would face a 2-game suspension.

Fortunately, Pitkanen was not injured and no penalty was accessed during play. The hearing was specifically called by the league in order to take action on the bump.

Here is an explanation of Rule 43:

Checking from Behind – A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with his back, no penalty shall be assessed.

Fines and Suspensions - Any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts under Rule 41 and/or Rule 43, in either the Regular season or Play-offs, shall be suspended automatically for the next game of his team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.

If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

With that in mind, Carcillo did not receive a misconduct or a penalty on the play, so this is a case where supplementary discipline was applied by the League at their discretion. Otherwise, no hearing would have been called.

Finally here it is, a true display of superhuman strength that sent Pitkanen diving into the boards:

Judges score it 9 out of 10. Your call?

While it was a weak hit at best, Carcillo still gave him that little shove by the boards that caused the hit. Shanny is staying true and stuck to his guns so the 2 gamer doesn't surprise me.

It sucks as I have a feeling Columbus is going to be a chippy game, but what are you going to do...

Sure it was by phone.

I think maybe fine but two games is a fucking joke. The NHL is turning into a pussy league.

O'Donnell plays every night.. LOL!

No one on CBJ is dumb enough to fight John Scott AND the BJs suck ass... no reason to play him. Play Olesz instead.

Dorsett is a puke and there's always some fireworks with the BJs and Hawks.

Is tonight Wiz's first or second game?

Mayers may be a busy man tonight.

I agree, last night might have been OD's worst game as a Hawk. I think it's worth seeing what Lepisto can bring.

When the natural safety-instict to clutch and grab when going to fast towards boards/corners is removed from the game to make the fastest game OMG EVEN FASTER, then you need to make it a softer game, because lots of these injuries and headshots sure mightve happened before and had the benefit of less media circus around everything, but at the same time, there were less accidental bad hits like seen today simply because of the faster speed.

Double edged sword. Bettman and lots others want even more excitement and shit, yet get bit in the ass for it. Now theyre finally doing what has needed to be done with the harsher penalty rules. I say hybrid the game so there less hooking calls so the players and help themselves out with a little bit of clutching and grabbing (but not as much as there used to be, where a hooking call was almost a joke; in the opposite way it is nowadays) so the game slows down just a smidge. Also, 4 on 4 (or 5v5, whatever) 10 minute OT. Shootouts should only be in preseason, damnit--if at all. Erasing ties just because hockey was the only sport to use them and was made fun of by dumbass football/baseball/basketball fans shouldn't mean shit. One point for a tie suffices, especially if going to a 10 min OT like in my imagination haha

I think Lepisto and Olesz should both play tonight.

Agreed. Who takes Carcillo's spot on the second line? Don't like Stalberg there. Q might, though. Frolik would be good, IMO, but then you're busting up the 3rd line, too. Olesz?

I wouldn't mind seeing Pirri brought up and play wing on the second line tonight, either.

I agree with the suspension it was a bad place to make the hit, it immediately reminded me of Ovie on Campbell. We bitched about that we should accept this one.

Campbell broke his collar bone though, and Ovy shoved him harder. To me, this was just a small bump where both players lost an edge... I can see why Shanny would hand out some sort of disciplinary action, but if it were me, I would have let it slide.

$2,500 fine and that's it. Can't believe THAT is a suspension.

Interested to see what Wolski's suspension is going to be after elbowing Alfredsson today.

Apparently the 2 game suspension is not confirmed.
