Huh? How was that a good penalty to take? He is chasing a defenseman who is after a loose puck behind their own net.

I absolutely hate that play, shoving a player into the boards from behind. There is no way for a player to defend against it.

I don't care if it is us making that play or another team. I see alot of hypocritical comments from our own posters here. If that same exact move was made on Seabs I would wager that those same commenters okay with Carcillo's play would be furious..

I think he's talking about the first penalty he took this year where he was breaking up a good scoring chance.

He didn't get a penatly on that hit because it wasn't a penalty as the ref staring right at it didn't call.

Really? Not a penalty? Ref's miss alot of calls.

Hmmm, enough that the NHL levied a two game suspension.....

Hardly. I didn't see the game and just now saw the article about his suspension and the video of the hit.

That hit was nothing like the Ovie on Campbell hit that abso-friggin-lutely deserved a big suspension. I have to agree with Q and Carbomb when they say that Joni lost his edge and tumbled over at a really inopertune moment. The fact that any player was skating up against him like that was inconsequential. Daniel might have nudged him a bit, but not nearly enough to send Pitkanen down onto the ice like that unless Joni was already falling forward.

They fell down and slid into the boards. It's hockey, shit happens. No amount of homerism or objectivity overcomes that simple fact.

Exactly Pete... and the on ice official who was looking right at the play felt the same way.

I have no problem with this suspension.

Carcillo did not have any respect for his opponent on that hit. It was dangerous and if someone did that to a Hawk, I would be pissed.

Before the instigator penalty we saw a lot more guys playing with respect and a lot less of this kind of crap...it happens so much now it is starting to seem "normal."

Thank you. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one who felt that way.

I don't feel that way, but if you guys remember, I was the only one who didn't think Ovi should have been suspended for the hit on Campbell.

There was NO difference between this hit and Ovi's hit on Campbell. Jesus, the rose colored glasses and homer opinions amaze me sometimes. They both deserved to get suspended. End of discussion.

This was extremely different from the Ovei hit. Ovie actually HIT Campbell from behind and LAUNCHED him into the wall. Carcillo was skating WITH Pitkanen, they BOTH fell down and slid into the wall.

Jesus, the devil's advocate colored glasses and anti-homer opinions amaze me sometimes.

It's not the end of the discussion. The Hawks, Carcillo, Q, all believe that his reputation played into this...and to reinforce that point, Shanny's deputy CONFIRMED that it was because of Carbomb's rep that this play was looked at and he was given a suspension.

But you guys go on being the 'voice of reason' and throw one of OUR players under the bus so it can suit your agenda. To comment that Carbomb didn't respect Pitkanen there is crazy. He easily COULD have slammed Joni into the wall but DIDN'T.

They fell. SHIT HAPPENS. Try actually playing hockey some time and you might figure that out.

I guess I'm not seeing what everyone else is. Carrillo defiantly was behind the guy.... Skating with him. Then pushed him down and went with him into the boards. Pikachu didn't lose an edge he was fine until contact. It was definitely different than ovie and not near as bad, but still not necessary and suspension warranted for all reasons mentioned in the video and for consistency within the league. The only thing wrong here is if they don't now call similar plays around the league. It was a dumb move especially from a guy with his rep.

No Mass, you arent the only one seeing it that way. It's one thing when someone wearing your team colors does it, all together different when the guy in your team colors is the victim. The only difference between the two plays is the "heaviness" of the push and the severity of the suspension. They were both pushes from behind. As was quoted to me by someone last night on a completely unrelated topic, but fits in this case, of course Q is going to say that, it's one of his fucking players.

I didnt say shit about respect or lack there of. Sorry I never lived anywhere as a kid where there were ice skating rinks to go to on a constant basis, I had to grow up playing roller hockey first on old school skates, then inlines as I got older. So I guess only playing hockey on wheels isnt good enough.

Also to add to it, if you notice, for being one of the "Carcillo Haters," I havent thrown him under the bus. I didnt jump on the "I told you so" or it "was only a matter of time" bandwagon. As a matter of fact I really havent said shit about the guy, other then saying something when after 2 games someone said "See, he has completely changed his game."

So yeah, pretty much end of discussion.

I think it was a bad play, but I'm not throwing him under the bus. I think he's been a good sparkplug so far, I just hope more of these suspensions aren't coming. Because as these minor ones start, it only makes it harder in the future to stay away from the major ones, they'll point to a pattern of behavior. That's where I think this suspension hurts the worst. I dont' think he really meant to do it, but I think he's been going out there so hard every shift trying to prove to this team that he belongs, you are eventually going to get stupid plays like the from anyone. Not just him. It could have just as easily been Stalberg, Bickel, Kruger, Frolik .... but it was carcillo. (I was going to say Brunette be we all know he isn't fast enough to catch anyone. hah!)

see my post directly above yours. No rose colored glasses. I didn't think either of them were suspendable plays.

I was getting ready to say I thought Ovie's hit was cheaper than this one but watched it again...broken down on the NHL site and I think he pushed (though maybe not quite a hard as Ovie) and then fell on him as Ovie did to Soupy. I was ready to give Carcillo a chance as he is a good skater and we need more grit, but I'm embarrassed by this garbage.
