Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo had a Saturday disciplinary hearing via phone with NHL safety chief Brendan Shanahan regarding a hit on Carolina Hurricanesdefenseman Joni Pitkanen early in Friday's 3-0 loss. The league said a decision as to whether Carcillo would face any punishment had yet to be made.

Pitkanen was chasing down a Chicago dump-in when Carcillo tied up his stick from behind and gave him a push into the end boards. No penalty was called on the play.

Carcillo has been suspended numerous times in his career, including for the first two games of this season because of an altercation with officials during last year's playoffs.

A decision on any punishment must come before the next Blackhawks game, which is Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I would put Olesz on the second line, the guy showed in camp that he is a great passer, has a decent shot, and can play the corners if he wants. I would put him with Hossa and Kane over Stalberg any day, but Q isn't gonna give him a shot.

Play Lepisto too dammit!

Can't disagree Rex. I'd like to see what both Lepisto and Olesz could do with some ice time.

dumb suspension. he shouldn't be missed tonight but perhaps in the Preds game.

Its still only Carcillo. I now he has been playing strong for us but if this team can't get by without him for a couple games then wouldn't that be a problem?

All this does is force Q to re-evaluate his lines for a couple games. That could be dangerous or it could actually be a good thing. Hell we might even get to see Kane and Toews together a bit more?

This might be a blessing in disguise in a lot of ways.

Look at me being all positive.

"Carcillo sounds pretty frustrated. Joked bout changing his last name. Didnt think twice bout hit at the time. He was more down then mad"

"Carcillo frstrated by suspension: "Tough pill to swallow. There's not too much leeway in this league for me."

Dan Carcillo faced disciplinary action today for his bunt delivered to Joni Pitkanen.

Definitely not a suspendible offense,* boot he does need to learn to bunt better. Though, to cut him some slack, he is Canadian, after all.

* offense = offence (forTCD)

When you have a rep like his everything you do will be scrutinized a bit harder. If anything remotely indicating questionable play appears the NHL will intervene.

Maybe he'll have mikita-like epiphany and be the Hawks next Lady Bing recipient.

he does only have 2 PIMs this season, and it was a good penalty to take. It's funny watching him out there, he's kept a real cool head. It would be quite funny to watch his PIM drop from 200-300 a season down to 16

Huh? How was that a good penalty to take? He is chasing a defenseman who is after a loose puck behind their own net.

I absolutely hate that play, shoving a player into the boards from behind. There is no way for a player to defend against it.

I don't care if it is us making that play or another team. I see alot of hypocritical comments from our own posters here. If that same exact move was made on Seabs I would wager that those same commenters okay with Carcillo's play would be furious..
