I was getting ready to say I thought Ovie's hit was cheaper than this one but watched it again...broken down on the NHL site and I think he pushed (though maybe not quite a hard as Ovie) and then fell on him as Ovie did to Soupy. I was ready to give Carcillo a chance as he is a good skater and we need more grit, but I'm embarrassed by this garbage.

Great post. The video and NHL position on Carcillo's hit backs up what you and I have been saying all along. For anyone that disagrees with the suspension and still disagrees with the postion of the NHL I would love to hear it after you watched the video above.

He was suspended because his last name is Carcillo. Anything else it would have been a fine.

That's the Hawks position on the matter as well. I disagree with you, but knew because his name was Carcillo he'd get suspended.

I watched the NHL video, and agree with everything Blake presented. And who care's if his name is Carcillo, that's his own fault. If it was Burrows, you wouldn't care if he got two games because his name is Burrows.

Should have been a $2,500 fine and that's it.

Anything else....with a player who isn't already a repeat offender. Yeah he got suspended because his name is Carcillo, which means because he's been in this position before because of what he's done in the past. Kinda the point, isn't it? Punish more harshly those who have been in trouble with this before. Seems pretty straightforward.

What I am saying is he makes his reputation. He can only blame himself for that. How many times has he already been suspended? 4? You put yourself in the position to be judged more harshly by YOUR behavior.

Carcillo upset with 2-game suspension

Hawks winger believes he's targeted because of rep

October 29, 2011|By K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune reporter

Continuing its trend of stronger crackdowns on borderline hits, the NHL suspended Blackhawks winger Daniel Carcillo two games for sending the Hurricanes' Joni Pitkanen into the boards Friday night.

Carcillo didn't receive a penalty on the play and Pitkanen wasn't injured, logging a team-high in ice time. But despite pleading his case in a hearing with the league office, Carcillo sat Saturday night and also will miss Monday's game against the Predators.

Yes of course he is. That's the point. You keep up bullshit behavior, they will be watching you. It'll be tougher and tougher to get any benefit of the doubt going your way. This isn't making it any easier for him to say that he's targeted. There's good reason why he's targeted. I don't agree with a lot of decisions the NHL makes, but that one I do. That's the way it should be. It shouldn't matter whether Pitkanen was injured or not. That is also something that really needs to be re-thought on factoring in suspensions/fines, if it had any bearing in the past. It shouldn't matter.

Maybe learn what you are talking about first hand. Carcillo has never been accused of a dirty or inappropriate hit. Sorry. Fine, first offense.

He's never been in this position before, but nice back pedal in your next post. Good grief.

Whether or not a player has made this same exact offense before isn't really the tipping point, it's the continuation of his questionable behavior and decision making on the ice that is. Maybe if he hadn't done stuff like cross check a guy high and/or in the face while going in to fight him, on two separate occasions, and in of them, sucker punch that player directly afterward which more or less knocked his ass out, maybe he wouldn't be scrutinized as much as he has. But those were his actions, his decisions. That's what he did. Another one was for an altercations off the ice with officials. RK if you're right about everything you say about officials and their bias and whatnot, why oh why would a player want to further dig himself a hole by doing something like that? There's no winning in that situation, either way, whether he deserved a suspension for whatever his "altercation" was, or the officials were just annoyed by him and wanted an easy reason to give him a few games off, you have to be smarter than that. There's a reason why he's targeted, he's not just some random player in which he's NEVER done anything suspend-able before like some are making it out to be. He has a history.

wrong again. He has no history of this type of offense. Should have been a fine. But nice back pedal friend of no friend.

There was NO difference between this hit and Ovi's hit on Campbell. Jesus, the rose colored glasses and homer opinions amaze me sometimes. They both deserved to get suspended. End of discussion.

The biggest difference and one you don't even touch on is that was NOT Ovechkins first brush with wreckless behavior on the ice. In fact it was his 3rd. This was Carcillos first instance.

I also agree with those that although similar Ovechkin was far more wreckless, and a repeat offender.

I watched the NHL video, and agree with everything Blake presented.

Well that's great. I stand by my own assessment of the play and assert that Joni picked up his right leg and began leaning forward at the same time that Dan extended his arms.

potato po tah to. Chicken or the egg. Would Joni have fallen without Dan there? Who knows. Did Dan really shove him over? I don't see it that way. Does Blake admit to having a bias of Dan, YES. Does he give him the benefit of the doubt, NO. Did Dan even deliver a hit? Again, I don't see it that way. So why punish him for delivering a 'hit from behind' on a defenseless player that supposedly didn't know Dan was there?

If they wanted to make hits like this illegal, then it is really simple: put a rule in the book that clearly says, do not chase a defender to a loose puck that is behind the goal line. Don't make contact, for fear that you will cause him to lose his balance and fall into something hard like the ice, or a wall, or the net, or another player.

Or just take hitting out of the game altogether. If the Shanny and Blake show keep going like this no one will want to hit and we might as well be watching the fucking ice capades.

A - I thought you had me on ignore...

B - I thought you weren't into bullying...

What changed?

It must be selective.

So does Carcillo go down to the 4th line with Stalberg playing like he is currently?

...or not?

I say dont fix what aint broke.

...and the fact that Campbell's collarbone was broken and he missed quite a few games.
