Hes 21!!!!! He makes bad decision but he has great range, great arm, and learning. When he 25 and still making same plays then sure lets talk about moving him but for now let him learn.

He makes errors, but also makes the great plays and has really good range... he's raw, that's all.

It may just be me but I think Castro's defense is already approving. That's what I am seeing and like the approvement. May just be me, if so, oh well.

What do you mean? Or did you mean improving, as in getting better? Approving is like the President signing a bill.

You must not have been watching particularly closely because he isn't even the worst defensive SS in the past decade for a Chicago team.

I said Chicago teams. That player is Jose Valentin with his 36 errors in only 141 games at SS in 2000 (granted that worst season was more than a decade but he continued to regularly play SS for several seasons afterwards) and had way less range and arm that Castro had. Castro in a lot of ways is very similar to Rafael Furcal, perhaps a bit more unpolished than Furcal. I don't think he every becomes accurate enough to become an elite SS defensively, but for all the mistakes he will also make some plays that very few if any other SS could make.

I would like to make a case that Castro was considered a really good defender. And it isn't that he can't handle to fast pace of the Majors, it's that he goes too fast.

that's garbage. He makes bad throws too often. He's got to fix it.

Of course you would. Those two combined didn't offer up the offense Starlin does...

I know it's not the end-all, be-all....but for the sake of comparing, Starlin's (short) career Fld% is .951. Ronny Cedeno's is .971. Ryan Theriot's is .973.
Starlin has 16 errors this season. Theriot has never had more than 15 in a season.

Now, before we all get up in arms over this, I'm fully aware that Castro's range is far superior to both of those guys, and part of the reason Castro's errors are up is b/c he gets to balls that the other two wouldn't...but to say that castro's defense is far superior to them at this point in his career is a stretch to say the least.

Oh, I meant to write "in the minors", but must have eluded it.

I wouldnt take Castro over Cedeno.

Theriot is debateable as well.

Cedeno is actually pretty decent and while Theriot doesn't have the range or arm he wasn't bad. Didn't make a lot of errors either which isn't a good indicator, but still something. Theriot and Cedeno are both pretty average SS's. I think Castro can and will be better than both, but not right now.
