I wouldnt take Castro over Cedeno.

Theriot is debateable as well.

Cedeno is actually pretty decent and while Theriot doesn't have the range or arm he wasn't bad. Didn't make a lot of errors either which isn't a good indicator, but still something. Theriot and Cedeno are both pretty average SS's. I think Castro can and will be better than both, but not right now.

Wait, is this overall or defensively now?

I'm going to guess that this is defensively since Castro's offense is way, way better than both of the guys mentioned.

Ya, but I think waldo was doing overall, but then poods couldn't have been, so I got a bit confused.

Sorry I assumed Waldo was talking just defensively as this thread is just about defense.

Well I'm not sure, I'm confused as hell, lol.

I was talking about D... Maybe not error wise but Castro also saves runs by getting to the ball and knocking them down.

Or gunning guys down on throws that only he or maybe a handful of other SS could make me.

put it this way, castro may be able to make some outs others cant...and thats great...but that doesnt excuse the fact that he still needs to improve his glove work(odd wording but you get the idea)

It would be silly to say that Castro is perfect defensively right now. He makes bad decisions, his arm accuracy is terrible and his footwork isn't much better. He does have the tools to possible be a great defender, but I think it is unlikely that he will improve that much. I through out this comparision defensively earlier and the more I think about it the more I like it. That comparision is Rafael Furcal.

oh, i do think he'll improve...but i dont think he'll ever be an elite defender....but i think he'll improve his glove and decision making as he still learns...castro is still really young...

but in the end i think what will really define his career is his offense

Starlin Castro may have 18 errors, but let's not act like this is some unheard of number. Currently Elvis Andrus and Jason Bartlett both have 15 errors each, and you don't hear any talk about Andrus needing to move. Castro actually has a better fielding percentage than Ryan Theriot and Hanley Ramirez as well.

It's more about the bet from earlier, where someone had so suck someones balls or something.

Castro makes more errors because he gets to more balls. Gotta figure out the arm and the glove part, but range is definitely not a problem.
