It's kind of up in the air (no pun intended) but you can argue that the ball is within the stands and thus is fair game for the fans, and Alou probably wouldn't have caught it anyway. You can definitely see fans other than Bartman catch the ball. Bartman was just unlucky. You kind of wonder whether if Bartman's neighboring fan had caught it that Bartman would be one of the fans giving them hell.

I'd like to think Bartman would be classier than that. Everything I've read about him seems to say that he's a really good guy.

Where's the blame for Prior, Wood, Gonzalez, and Sosa? Just easier for Cub fans to blame "goats and curses"

Can't believe people can treat another human like that. Makes me lose faith in humanity.

I agree completely. Makes me embarrassed to call myself a Chicagoan. To this day, I still feel really bad for Bartman. Wherever he is, I hope he's doing alright.

I honestly would put more blame on AG in that game than Bartman. He had an easy double play ball that he booted. Although the Bartman play probably set the aura and awoke the beast that is the curse,

True on the Gonzalez play, but Alou's reaction IMO was more detrimental than Bartman catching it.

Baseball is all about momentum. It's the streakiest sport there is. Moises Alou not catching the ball killed the momentum.

I do feel bad for Steve Bartman and don't feel hate for him though because I believe literally 80-90% of the fans would've done the same thing in the moment. It was a big deal imo but it just so happened to be him.

It's amazing to think about really, Steve Bartman had no way of knowing when he woke up that morning that he would be going to bed that night forever ingrained in Chicago Cubs lore.

Koyie Hill wishes he deflected it instead, he needs some claim to fame.

Wow, they've really managed to work the Red Sox in here quite a bit towards the end, lol.

I hope steve gets the buckner treatment someday....after the cubs win a WS..cubs bring him in throw out the 1st pitch.

And the fans cheer bartman and shower him with love. Things will be forgiven then.

It wouldn't be an ESPN documentary without the Bawston Sawx.

That'd be awesome. I'd give him one hell of a standing ovation.
