NFL expert consensus top player in the draft means nothing to The Hawk. White was not my first choice, but how anyone could possibly not think that getting a play maker on offense is a good idea is beyond me.

Jay Cutler with a shit center and shit RT.............Can't wait for the pictures of him sitting on the sideline with glassy eyes after throwing another interception. Then the exciting offense by Fox which involves throwing screen passes to Forte with NOONE to block for him.

I don't know. There are a lot of issues everywhere. Jay can be really good under duress. Center and OG is a priority today. NT if they think they actually have a starter. DB, of course. Pressure up the middle has been a problem since Jay has been here. I think it's hard to argue with the White pick, Hawk.

White was a league-wide consensus top 6-7 player. The only reasonable criticism of the pick I can come up with is that Beasley might have had an equivalent grade and they should've taken him and focused on WR in the second. However, as I pointed out several weeks ago, Beasley is not a size/length profile fit for Fangio's defense and that probably reduced his grade on the Bears board substantially.

6 rounds left in the draft to address those needs. Lighten up, Sunshine.

This was a great pick. White is a beast physically and by all accounts has great character. People bitching about it are football stupid.

I'm pretty certain they had Williams and Fowler and Cooper ahead of White. The beauty of this draft is they got a player who should have a very productive NFL career. Cooper was a plug and play guy - outside, inside, special teams. Any team would have liked Williams - you could have the long term in your pocket for two years. The Jets weren't going to let us off and why would you with Kevin White there? It's just the way it fell and the Bears weren't going to spend picks with White still there.

Wish he coulda kept his number.

I normally give two shits about trivial things like this, but I can't stand that number on a wr's back.
Im with ya on that one. 11 would look so much better. Is it too late to cut Bellamy and switch it?

I wasn't very excited about the pick when it happened because I was disappointed by the Mariota news, which basically cemented Cutler being our QB this year.

Once I got past that though, I really, really like the pick. Especially when you consider that in the next two seasons, the Bears will almost certainly be playing a rookie QB. After watching teams that have had success at QB, it's very clear to me that, at some level, you have to have the right type of environment to help young QBs develop. Having Alshon and White on the outside and Royal in the slot is definitely an outstanding environment for a young QB to develop in.

However, they still need to fix the defense and solve the right side of the offensive line.

That's how you set up a young QB to succeed, unlike what the Bears have done previously.

I like the pick. He's a 6'2, 215 pound guy that can run 4.3, can catch, doesn't drop many passes, and gets YAC. Supposedly can catch in traffic. Those don't grow on trees. Like others, I (of course) want to see us get some help for defense, but I'm also a proponent of the best player available model. If he impacts the Bears like AJ Green impacts the Bengals or Julio Jones impacts the Falcons, then the pick will have been worth it.

If he doesn't pan out, then it will be a bummer like Chris Williams, Carimi, and McClellin. So I'm knocking on wood and hoping for the best. There are many good signs. I'm just glad we didn't take anyone that wasn't thought of to be top 10-caliber.

He's going to pan out. He's not dumb and he attacks the ball. I'm pretty sure nobody will want to be one on one with him from his first game. Even if they had someone to trade down with, I think he's a hard guy to leave out there.
