John Hayden update at Yale

2016-17: Leads the team with a career-high 18 goals... Career-best 30 points... Scored seven goals in first seven games... Scored two late goals to tie and then win OT game at RPI... Scored a point in eight straight games from Nov. 5 to Dec. 9... Scored twice against Cornell, RPI and Brown... Hobey Baker candidate... Finalist for Walter Brown Award.

Yale is likely to flame out at the ECAC quarterfinals March 10th, and then I think we can has him.

Don't know who remembers 2011 fourth-round pick Maxim Shalunov, but he's been playing pretty well over the KHL. And well, he just might be on his way to Chicago soon.

It certainly sounds like he'd make the jump straight to the NHL team.

Can someone explain to me why we've had 2-3 games in hand on Minnesota for what seems like most of the year, I get that it ebbs and flows but doesn't it usuallly equal out then go the other way and then back and such, it seems like they've had at least 2 or 3 less games since at least the new year. I know they had a game canceled last night so that doesn't help but still. Not only that but Winni has 2 up on us so they are 4 games in hand on them. Kind of crazy to have played 4 more games than another team, but again it would probably only be 3 if they had not had the game canceled last night?

Can't break for too long. Though notable the Hawks have played probably some of the least amount of games since the Allstar break and what post 1 in the last 11 games.

When both the wild and blue jackets had the winning streaks they had the least amount of games played while the Hawks back then had the most due to tight schedule fits.

Some potentially good news: the NHL salary cap for next season could go up a bit over the initial projections of $73 million:

Do they try to keep Kruger or get a sequel from Campbell or oduya... or try to get Sharp in on a Campbell type contract.

Other news Shalunov appears to be unable to get out of his khl deal to come over. I thought they should of traded him if anyone wanted it. Never foresaw him coming to the team that sent him to the echl but it appears he actually wants to play 2 more khl years because he's got a shot to play for the powerhouses of cskamosckow or SKAstpeterburg

Do we know what the sticking point is in the contract? Just the buyout amount? Or a technicality?

In news I believe we all expected: Hjalmarsson is off the IR and should play tomorrow night.

The team stands to gain from trading him to one of the bigger teams for next season. So they won't just release him to go but his effort in asking for that is questionable anyway

And the return of Opooya... gotta get one in there for Joe.

And I see you trying to stir up ChicagoPizzaGate there

By bigger teams do you mean in the KHL or the rights to any NHL team willing to pay.

In the khl, specifically the biggest two which one of Panarin came from and Datsyuk is currently on and the other Radulov was on.

But they can't trade Shalunov until after the playoffs are up which are currently ongoing

Haha never! Although the thin-crust pizza in Chicago is seriously underrated. So many good options.

A couple interesting stories from the Hawks' beat writers this week.

First, Sun-Times' Mark Lazerus has a story on how nutrition has become a huge key for the team. Best quote of the story comes from Q:

Following games, players are chugging all sorts of protein shakes and thick, gruel-like substances to help them recover faster. It’s a far cry from Joel Quenneville’s playing days, when postgame recovery came with a pull tab.

“Night and day,” Quenneville said. “Definitely a big difference in how they manage their lifestyle and how they prioritize what goes in [their bodies], how they sleep, how they train, and how they prepare. The commitment is around the clock. Their drinks are a little different than beer.”

And The Athletic's Scott Powers had a big story on 13 prospects who could be added to the team's roster pool by next season. It's behind the Athletic's paywall so I won't be posting any of those contents here, but I again recommend getting subscription to that website. They cover everything in Chicago and they're expanding all over the country, too.
