I just noticed Jordan is on the floor in that game of a clear blowout game with under a minute left. Why weren't you calling for the firing of Phil Jackson then? :smug2:

One of my favorite history moments involved the greatest team ever.... The Dream Team! Tony Kukoc was very much a Jerry Krause project. Krause was so enamored with Kukoc, that the Bulls started to get an attitude about it. Just prior to Tony joining the Bulls, he got a chance to play against his future teammates.

The Dream team was killing everyone and their next opponent was against Croatia, Tony Kukoc's team. MJ and Pip hated Krause so much, they wanted to totally embarrass Kukoc in the Olympics. Well, they sent a pretty good message to Tony, and Krause! Check it out:

The Dobermans...an appropriate nickname. Kukoc was one of several victims. They could flip the switch whenever they wanted or needed to. Pippen made Magic Johnson was a victim in the 91 finals. Putting Scottie on Magic had a huge impact on the series. It was a fait accompli, really.

Poppycock! What happened in the 90s set the standard by which Bulls are judged...like it or not. As a matter of fact, it's a league wide standard. The 90s Bulls, for all intents and purposes, are the gold standard that's most commonly referenced in NBA talk of today. If you want to be oblivious, ok, whatever. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's a double edged sword. While the basis for comparison is impossibly high, what happened 20 years ago is also why the Bulls have popularity, which some of the current players benefit from.

It's a shame Pippen retired before the 04/05 season. Would have been cool to hear about him and Deng possibly going at it in practice.

Anyway what did you think of Jerry Krause as a GM?

Deng is/was a very good perimeter defender....excellent even. But he's not even in the same strata as Pippen. But the thing is, Pippen was the beneficiary of practicing against Jordan every day. It was like the perfect cross-section of nature/nurture. You had Pippen who had this raw skill and then you had Jordan, who was both the best offensive weapon in the history of the league and also the biggest ass kicker when it came to demanding effort in practice. It's not easy to dial up the two biggest elements that made Scottie into the all time great defender that he was. I should also add that you have to give Scottie credit for having the will to endure practices against Jordan and the pride and focus to come out for the better on the other side. Still though, with all respect to Pippen, he was Jordan's Frankenstein. It speaks to the excellence and compete level of both, however.

I think there's a flawed assumption that can be dismissed as myth. I'm talking citius altius fortius. People over esteem these citius altius fortius assumptions. But, by and large, advances are more attributable to technological advances than evolution. And FWIW, the average height of an NBA players has been a little over 6'7 for 30+ years.

i don't think either me or scoot were being all that serious

anyways its different these days...ive proved my point on how the league is trending toward fewer minutes a few times

plus players seem to be much more fragile these days....i don't know why...maybe its overtraining or too many supplements but they arent the ironmen they were back in the day

You have two glaring conjugation errors but you save it with a substantive (albeit not data driven) observation about the fragileness of today's NBA.

My theory is that it can be that guys compete harder from game to game than what we want to realize. My other observation would be that guys might be overtraining and this coincides with a need to be athletic. In the day, a center could be this slow-twitch being ambling his way around the court. Now, they're expected to be mobile. Maybe there's a hidden effect here?

What is there to say about Krause? The results speak on their own. And it's an outcome that's absolute and complete. Once Jordan was focused against Krause, Krause was done...even if he stayed with the Bulls. It was a fait accompli.

Again, I don't care about certain things cast in a myopic light, especially regarding Krause. Regardless of whether Krause was right on his projection, Curry was a HS project who was unlikely to see his time play out while with the Bulls. Same with Chandler. They overshot their wad.

They said Jordan began hating Krause after he traded Oakley.

Ah, the Doberman defense, I remember it well. I also remember Pip on Magic in that series. I don't think some younger people realize just how good MJ and Pip were together on defense, let alone the offense. :dunno:

It's hard to say exactly where they started hating Krause, I don't think they ever got along, imo. You have to understand that Oakley was MJ's protector. He would literally punch out a player who got too physical with MJ. Oak was a stud.

I can't remember right now, but I remember Oak planting a left jab on someones face that looked like Mike Tyson threw the punch. They didn't call Oak the Oak tree for nothing. He was literally like running into a tree. The man was bad to the bone. Tough as nails.

The thing is though, that trade was exactly what the Bulls needed to go to the next level. As much as Oak was Loved, getting a true post up C in Cartwright was exactly what they needed to compete for a ring. Plus, they had an upcoming Horace Grant who Krause nabbed with Pippin. That was a great draft too.

Krause was a dick, but he made some great moves. It was ultimately jealousy of the players that was Krause's downfall, imo. This caused the hate between everybody more than anything.

Jordan's hatred for Krause started when he was attempting to come back ahead of schedule from a broken foot and Jerry didn't want that because he wanted to make sure MJ didn't suffer a setback and he wanted a lottery pick. Jordan to this day claims Krause said that he was the Bulls' property.
