Dempster has looked real good. He will probably take the lead in ERA after today since this should qualify him again.

I think the sixth inning should be his last regardless. He's gonna get close to that pitch limit.

I thought it was Hollandsworth that said his limit was probably going to be 85 pitches or the fifth inning, but Dempster has been so good that it seems like the sixth should be a go.

Zambrano= not so good---- Volstad= :turrible:

Shit happens.

Rizzo = Best Cubs trade since Ramirez and Lee (So far...)

And that trade isn't done yet. Check out LHP Zach Cates down in Peoria. He dominated the AZL before scuffling a bit in the FSL, but he looks to have righted the ship in the MID. Has a good shot, considering he's only been pitching for about 16 months (drafted as a C by SD and converted to a P).

Now, consider that Cashner's shoulder just blew up on him after 2 starts... his days as a starter should be done (unless the Padres insist on ruining his arm). Kyung-Min Na is now a backup OF for SD's AA affiliate. I'd say so far, that trade has been a total bust for SD, huge win for us.

I also think the Marshall trade will go down as an excellent trade as well. We gave up a LH RP, excellent as he was, that wasn't going to return after this year... and would not net a comp pick due to the new CBA regulations. We got a young SP in Wood (that if you took a deep look at his scouting reports and stats at the time of the trade... you'd know was very similar to Marshall. So, at the very worst, you'd end up with a great LH RP... at best, a mid-rotation SP.) We also get a potential lead-off type 2B in Ronald Torreyes who has been one of the hottest hitters in the minors over the past month... though he did get off to a terrible start to the season. Sappelt might turn into a backup OF at some point... though that's looking more and more unlikely.

Soriano just broke Gameday. Stuck on 1-2 count. Dare I ask what happened?

Dempster struck out, and then Maholm in to relieve. Why aren't you pinch hitting there?

Maholm relieving? That's kind of an odd move. This isn't the LCS.

I thought it was 4-5-6 so Dempster wasn't batting?

All I know is the Dempster was rung up on a check swing to end the last inning.

Wow can you tell that I am only half watching since I mistook Geo for Dempster.

Gameday says that was Soto.

Reed stopped running after lineout to 3B... freak out everyone #sorihaters

I wonder if the years of near uselessness of Soriano... and his wretched start might have had a small bit to do with the fans booing him? You are talking about a guy who has a well documented track record of being a lazy ball player that refused to put forth effort. That particular play that got all the booing wasn't a big deal, but how many times over the past 3 years have we seen him loaf to 1B when he could have made it safe easily... and end an inning? How many times have we seen him end up on 1st after sending the ball to the wall... trotting out of the box thinking he hit a HR? How many times did we see him loaf to a ball in LF, either allowing a hit to fall in before him that should have been caught... or allow a single to turn into a double?

The answer to all of those questions... dozens. Eventually, people get pissed off at a guy that has all the talent in the world, but 0 effort clogging up the finances so badly for a team that they can't do much in terms of drawing in top talent to improve the team. If he'd played this entire time as he has this year... I think you'd see a lot different attitude from the fans.

Five day break until he pitches again due to the ASG.

Well I assumed he would have plenty of rest in between, but why not have the regular RP's to stay in game form? What exactly is the point in Maholm getting a relief appearance? Just kind of weird.
