Five day break until he pitches again due to the ASG.

Well I assumed he would have plenty of rest in between, but why not have the regular RP's to stay in game form? What exactly is the point in Maholm getting a relief appearance? Just kind of weird.

They kinda need to trade him for something too. Or else he comes back next year at $6.5MM.

Reed stopped running after lineout to 3B... freak out everyone #sorihaters

I wonder if the years of near uselessness of Soriano... and his wretched start might have had a small bit to do with the fans booing him? You are talking about a guy who has a well documented track record of being a lazy ball player that refused to put forth effort. That particular play that got all the booing wasn't a big deal, but how many times over the past 3 years have we seen him loaf to 1B when he could have made it safe easily... and end an inning? How many times have we seen him end up on 1st after sending the ball to the wall... trotting out of the box thinking he hit a HR? How many times did we see him loaf to a ball in LF, either allowing a hit to fall in before him that should have been caught... or allow a single to turn into a double?

The answer to all of those questions... dozens. Eventually, people get pissed off at a guy that has all the talent in the world, but 0 effort clogging up the finances so badly for a team that they can't do much in terms of drawing in top talent to improve the team. If he'd played this entire time as he has this year... I think you'd see a lot different attitude form the fans.

Really don't mind a guy that has been so good the past couple of months... with no real signs of slipping... $6.5M.

No people would still be ripping Sori due to his production and the ridiculous contract offer he got. The "laziness" narrative makes it easier for people to do that.

Maholm relieving? That's kind of an odd move. This isn't the LCS.

Last game before a 4-day break.... and Dempster scheduled to make the first start after the break... you're going to see some strange pitching substitutions today.

A bunch of that is because he killed his legs in his first season as a Cub. There are dozens of players in the majors who don't run out groundouts that are outs like 99% of the time. I don't get too pissed off about those but it is annoying. At the same time you realize that baseball is a marathon and you'd rather they be healthy for the next potential big hit than bust a quad trying to leg out an easy out.

Yeah if Maholm, Garza, and Dempster get deal the rest of this year will be really ugly.

Nobody said the rebuild would be pretty. Ugly = likely #1 pick.

Maybe, if he hadn't been a lazy bum... his production might be better? I also think you're wrong here. Sure, there would still be people after him due to his lack of production.... but look at how many jackasses fell in love with Theriot, Campana, Fontenot.... all because they put up the effort that Soriano, ARam, DLee were not. If Soriano actually looked like he was trying to put up the production (stupidly) expected of him due to the contract... I think he wouldn't be nearly as hated as he is now.

Castro just hit a manly 3 run homerun in a tough pitchers park.
