you have no idea how to evaluate pitchers using fip and other sabre stats while combining other stats. you need to research sabre and normal stats.

That's why I stick to ERA. Though it may not be the best representation of how good a pitcher has been, it calculates what matters, runs.

Its not even really about ERA in his dicussion, it is the fact he has no idea about how to evaluate a player. There are many sites to get in depth reads on specific sabre stats and regular stats. he is missing the boat on his evaluations by a wide margin.

I meant he's one of our 5 best starters.... but yes, I'm talking about him.

We only had 2 pitchers make more than 30 starts, Wells and Demp. They were about the same. Had Wells made the 2 more starts that Demp had, they would basically be identical in their FIP, xFIP, and WAR.

No he's not.:obama:

just stop.

No.

Actually, I do. FIP takes into account BB's, K's and HR's, the 3 things that a pitcher can control, in theory. xFIP neutralizes the HR component, based on the number of HR's per flyball. WAR simply translates FIP using park factors and league averages, then finds out how many wins better a pitcher is than a replacement level pitcher.

Yes, it calculates runs, but not all of that can be held to the pitcher.

I'm sorry that I don't use W-L records to decide how good a pitcher is, Dewey. Which evaluations am I missing the boat on? Go on and say Randy Wells, but his higher ERA is based on a higher BABIP.
No he's not.:obama:

Name 5 who are better.
