But according to CO, Wells was "unlucky".

Yep, a guy with 80 mph (les, I know I'm lowballing the number a little) FastBall with less than stellar control who can't keep the ball out opf the middle of the plate is unlucky when he gives up hits.:obama:

8-14 4.26 ERA is unlucky?

is it because his # of SOs and WHIP are decent?

i don't think that changes the fact that at this point wells is not a rotation pitcher..he just isn't good enough...maybe the last guy in the rotation at best

Exactly. Some people are still high on his 2009 performance. Just some more Kool-Aid.

Nishioka bidder will be announced in the coming hours. The Cubs weren't rumored to have to have interest in him, but I hope they came in under-the-radar. After all, this is the RANDOM trade ideas thread.

Never mind about the last part. Wrong thread.

Their "low" ERA. Wells sucks, 3.33 (Z) is good, but not ourtstandings, Dempst was decent, Silva sucked in the second half snd ended up in the 4's. I was more impressed with the back end of the pen than the rest of the staff.

Deal lord... why do you go by ERA? Look at his FIP for god's sake. Wells was just as good as 2009, better according to his xFIP. Sure Silva finished with a 4.22 ERA, but his FIP and xFIP were below 4.

But according to CO, Wells was "unlucky".

That's what I would call a .320 BABIP

No, no, no, no, no. :obama: You can not use W-L and ERA to dictate how good a pitcher is. Not at all. I don't give a shit about WHIP or raw K numbers. Look at his FIP, his K/9, his K/BB, his LD%, etc. Stats that matter.

No, he absolutely is a rotation pitcher. He is one of our best starters and he's cheap.

He gave up 209 hits. Unlucky baby. :D

So did CC Sabathia, so your argument has no merit to it once soever.

it is only because the defense didnt get to those hits. haha

Once the ball is in play, Wells has no effect on the ball. There is not a lot he can do about it. But, so what if he gave up 209 hits? Here is a list of pitchers who gave up that many or more

CC, Buehrle, Haren, Lackey, Pavano, HALLADAY, Brett Myers, Carpenter, Grienke, and Ervin Santana.

But but if it wasn't for Castro (example) making errors, Wells would be a special pitcher.

@ the quote from CO you quoted: Isn't it the pitcher's job not to but it right in the middle to be driven far and isn't it the pitcher who is supposed to create weak contact so it CAN be fielded?

That's the point, dumbass.

Yes, it is their job and you have absolutely no way of proving that any of that happened.

I meant he's one of our 5 best starters.... but yes, I'm talking about him.

We only had 2 pitchers make more than 30 starts, Wells and Demp. They were about the same. Had Wells made the 2 more starts that Demp had, they would basically be identical in their FIP, xFIP, and WAR.

you have no idea how to evaluate pitchers using fip and other sabre stats while combining other stats. you need to research sabre and normal stats.
