From terribleToph (@terribleToph): Why does Ryan Poles hate the bears???? why tf we interviewing 2,000 people for head coach.

For the life of me, Toph, I can’t understand why people are against extensive interview processes. The one I like to cite is the Chargers—they interviewed 15 guys for their head-coaching job, nine for their GM job, and still landed on Jim Harbaugh and a GM from his background in Joe Hortiz. The Spanos family will tell you that they’re better and, just as important, better equipped to support Harbaugh and Hortiz after helming a full process.

Running a full operation is more complicated than ever. There are more ideas in the game, good and bad, than ever. Getting more exposure to all of it, to make yourself better, isn’t a bad thing.

Matt Campbell has a 2-6 record vs Kirk Ferentz. Iowa has had one of the absolute worst offenses in college football that past few years. Hard pass. If he wants to move to the NFL, he should start as a coordinator.

And I don't mean to say that he is a bad coach. He has done a great job at ISU. But for the Bears, it would be a very risky hire that would likely blow up in their face, IMO

Campbell is a better coach than Sarkisian. Sarkisian is only benefiting from NIL. Texas was irrelevant until NIL started. Texas is the richest school in the country. They can out pay anyone and that is how they got good. I have seen a lot of Iowa State games and Campbell is a hell of a coach just to have Iowa State in the mix at times. Given that, I do not think he is a serious candidate for the job. Would be fun to watch him on the sidelines though as he has some Mike Ditka in him.
I disagree. Sark is an amazing play caller. I doubt he leaves TX, but if he did, he’d be near the top of my list for HC candidates for the Bears.

If you have 3-4 candidates you basically know are top-flight, each candidate you add onto that increases the likelihood of you picking someone other than those guys.

"Oh, but you never really KNOW! One of those other guys might be the right pick!"

I mean, maybe. The job is so infamously difficult that just statistically speaking, the more people you consider, the higher the likelihood you pick the wrong person.

Right but there is no Jim Harbaugh for us to end up with after this process. Guys like that don't just come along every day. He was a lock to be a great HC and there's no locks out there for us to land on after this long process of interviewing 18+ candidates. Hopefully they'll really narrow the search down after this 1st round of virtual interviews. If we're the last to hire a HC then we'll also get the last choices for who our new HC hires for OC/DC and the rest of the coaching staff.

Unless the law has changed since I took the CPA, for a contract to exist both parties have to offer consideration. Since only one party has this would constitute a gift and gifts are not legally enforceable and thus can be rescinded prior to being given without issue. Once given however they are considered the property of the owner and cant be taken back if the giver changes his mind.

The famous case on the CPA exam was the engagement ring. If it is an absolute gift it doesnt have to be returned if the couple breaks up. If it is considered a conditional gift (and thus akin to a contract) because the ring is being offered in exchange for a promise to marry then the giver can legally enforce a right to its return. Some states adopt a no fault approach and thus it must be returned regardless of cause of the breakup while other states only require the return if the receiver was at fault for the breakup.
which states laws hold precedence, the state in which the proposal was made, or the state in which they preside at the time of the breakup?

ISU coaches coaching Chicago sports teams has not garnered positive results

I really don't understand why Freeman rushed to sign that extension. If Irish win national championship that could raise his value even higher.

If what they are doing is simply a learning process and maybe even interviewing potential staff hires that makes sense. Maybe that is the objective.

My worry remains they are bad judges of character and could very easily fall in love with one of these outside of the box candidates. George certainly won’t mind as it will be cheap. I can all but guarantee his (George’s) top guy won’t be the most expensive one.

If they win he can rework the deal. Its not like the irish wont be happy to give him whatever the eff he wants at that point. When you win in college you are a God
