So you’re suggesting they should hire Ben Johnson without complying with the Rooney rule, is that it?

Looks like you need to explain another post
At this point, does anyone support the Rooney rule? I think it’s a complete disgrace. I mean, I get it Mike Tomlin was a RR hire, but he was a NFL DC on the rise and already had a SB ring as a DB coach. That is outlier interview the rest of the interviews are completely failing to meet the purpose.

When it was first implemented teams actually interviewed good minority candidates, I feel like.

Now its legit guys with zero shot at the job

Maybe they don’t wanna bring in token candidates. Maybe they honest to Christ are considering minority candidates. Have you considered that?
And that’s why they are interviewing Ed George, as some black horse candidate right before the guy they want becomes available. Maybe try thinking before you post.

Well there was a rumor that BJ wanted to work with him.
If Johnson picks the Raiders, he’ll have by far the worst roster in the division. He won’t have a QB.

Plus, he’ll be the worst coach in the division by a wide margin even if he’s pretty damn good.

He will have Tom Brady’s cell number so that’s cool.

Will be a pretty cool flex to have tom brady's cell phone # after he fires you in 2027

I'm not disagreeing but perhaps a 6/100mil contract plus running the show with Newmark might calm those fears.

Honestly there's a small part of me that is laughing that between the Bears and the Raiders it seems like one of them will get Ben Johnson and the other one will be completely embarrassed, unless something wild happens and he either goes back to Detroit or lands with the jags and then both the Raiders and the Bears look absolutely silly, especially if the Raiders higher that GM hoping it'll land them Ben Johnson.

Pretty sure not hiring ben johnson wont be embarassing, especially for the bears.

Mccarthy, Joe Brady, and Monken are all legit candidates too. ITs not like they are settling for a random ass candidate.

This is the first time the bears job has arguably been the most desirable in a coaching search.

The majority of teams have been good about it. But there have definitely been teams that only paid lip service to the idea of it - like "interviewing" an internal candidate via phone. It's those shenanigans that led the NFL to keep expanding and further trying to force the issue, imo.

Oh personally I agree with you. But you know the media is going to spin it that way.

I think the Raiders are the ones that would look bad if they don't land Ben Johnson for whatever reason. They have pushed the media hard, the Tom Brady angle hard, and now the GM interview. They have clearly put all their eggs in the Ben Johnson basket.

The Bears will probably still be interviewing new candidates up to the draft to make sure they cast a wide enough net.

Bears interviewing Eddie George tomorrow per Glazer.

Makes them Rooney rule compliant which makes sense now that they can do in persons Monday.

Eddie may be a good coach one day, he seems really effing smart and obviously was great at football.

Would be cool to see him as a part of the new coaching staff(RB coach or something) but doubt he leaves a HC program in college for that.

I mean let's be honest. You have meatballs in our own media who will be spending that this somehow will be a black eye on the Bears if they don't land Ben Johnson.

But I agree that if the Bears end up with Johnson and the Raiders higher that long time Lions GM and don't land Johnson, they will look absolutely ridiculous.
