Coleman Shelton's listed at 6'5" 285lbs, most NFL centers are around 300lbs so Ryan Bates (6'4 302lb) at least fits that profile. Shelton is undersized and has been getting dominated. He should only be the backup, and should not be getting most of the reps with Caleb just because Nate Davis doesn't like practice.

If Ja'Tyre Carter, Bill Murray, or Jerome Carvin aren't better options to play right guard, why are they even on the roster?

This "Top 10" offensive line the Bears are supposed to have is basically the weakest group on the team at this point. Even more so than the Defensive line, which at least seems to have quality starters like Billings & Sweat, a reliable vet like Walker, plus encouraging young players like Dexter & Booker.

I don't think Shelton practicing @ C will hurt Bates competency there at all. He right there next to Shelton and needs to understand what the C's responsibilities are to play well next to him.

Well, for one, Jason Kelce, all pro Center, retired, had a playing weight around 290 lbs. It CAN be done at 285-290. They are on the roster because you actually need to find out if any of them can actually play, hence it is called "training camp" and not the 53 man roster.

And, Poles has been trying. he has draft picks on both ends of the O line. He has a new Center and possibly a new center and new Guard. Injuries are a thing that can strike at any time. Davis is a conundrum. A guy brought in to be a solid guard who appears to have lost the desire to play. Not sure one can figure that one out when he came off of a decent scene. Hopefully, injury bug stops and these guys get back to practicing and, when the season starts, playing again.

Does 15 lbs matter that much?

I agree the OL is the biggest weakness of the team and could derail what is otherwise a very promising season. I expect Poles to draft both OL and DL heavy in next year's draft.

30 games starting for a Super Bowl winning head coach over the last two seasons and people act like this guy is some complete unknown Poles picked up off the street.

Probably because poles decided a guy who cant snap and a guy who completely sucks were the answer at center last year.

Bears fans rightfully shouldnt trust the former OL to scout OL :(

Lets also not forget prison break

Giving the Chicago Bears the benefit of the doubt regarding the offensive line is wild.

What does what Poles did last year have to do with Coleman Shelton? He started 17 games for a 10-7 team. He’s not going to the probowl this year. He’s not a long term solution. But let’s not act like he is some rando either.

Does anyone consider this to be a “top 10” offensive line?

Kreutz was usually under 300lbs throughout his career.

Jay Hilgenberg played at 265lbs and the Bears won in 1985 so I guess your point is valid. On the other hand, everyone has been talking about how Caleb is under constant pressure so far in camp and there have been multiple reports that Shelton has been getting beaten consistently.

Maybe a competent coaching staff doesn't move the starting center out of his position to replace the right guard instead of using one of the actual backup guards. If Shelton was actually good the Rams would have been looking to keep him instead of replacing him with a 338lb 2nd year player.

They announced the starting center? When?
