But they did t save a ton of cap by moving bates. That’s the whole point I’m making.

If the bears took on the entire cap hit then it would make a ton of sense, but that didn’t happen.

They also extended a guard to fill mcgovern’s spot, they could’ve just kept bates considering they are paying most the cap hit.

Don’t you think there is some possibility they decided bates was the guy that they didn’t want and opted to move him not for money reasons but because he was a healthy scratch?

Edwards makes less than Bates current contract. Save roughly 1.5 and get a draft pick. Thats pretty much what it came down to

Bills fan can probably explain it better. Though this was before they switched McGovern over to C

“Bates became an expensive backup for the Bills, as he signed a four year/$17M deal with Buffalo two years ago. Bates, once a very reliable Guard/Center for the Bills, quickly lost his starting role when Buffalo signed Connor McGovern and drafted O’Cyrus Torrence.

As Buffalo continues to make moves before the Wednesday 4:00 EST deadline, fans will watch the salary cap. According to Spotrac, this move will likely save the Bills $1.4M of cap space, while also creating $4M dead cap.”

The bills viewed bates as a back up, created 4 mill in dead cap this year to be done with the contract and not have him on the books for next year.

Need Lucas Patrick's PFF numbers and whats the bet
No. It's over/under Ryan Bates. On pass and run block grades. You're the one who took issue with me saying he's going to be disappointing - put up, or shut up.

"If he stayed on the roster, Buffalo would have paid Bates $4M this year. As they try to get under the salary cap and make some moves once free agency starts, keeping Bates didn’t financially work for Buffalo."

Are you going to simply acknowledge that there is a dead cap hit for bates? They aren’t simply saving all of his contract like youre stating unless the information for spotrac is incorrect

Are you going to acknowledge there’s a dead cap hit for this year, and acknowledge the cap hit they will be paying for this player to be a Chicago bear? Yes or no

there is a dead cap hit, they also saved more than the dead cap hit the following year. are you going to acknowledge that it was done for financial reasons now?

"The Ryan Bates trade leaves behind $4 million in dead cap in 2024, and results in a cap savings of $1.4 million, according to @spotrac. It’s a modest savings that will be mostly wiped out by Bates’ eventual roster replacement, but does clear $5.439 million off the 2025 cap."

Did you not read my post or are you that hopelessly blind you ignore everything else. Even just read the sentence YOU posted right before the bolded one “it’s a modest savings that will be mostly wiped out by Bates eventual roster replacement”

You just posted exactly what I’ve previously said and what me to acknowledge what, what I’ve literally already stated????

you also posted this which was factually incorrect because you were either ignorant to or ignoring the dead cap money.

You'd have a point if this year was the only year that mattered. And the "factually incorrect" thing i posted was from the same article YOU just linked.

You're brushing off a 5.5 m cap savings for the following season like that wouldn't play a part in their decision.

They took a dead cap hit but that doesn't come close to what they're saving over the remainder of his contract.

You though Bates was good and were trying to get loud about it. 🤣😂🤣

You realized that it didn't take much to outperform Lucas Patricks pff grades and now you dont want to mention what they were 😂

All talk and just a big pussy who just wants attention
