In fall tour 95? I think I was at that show. They did some acoustic songs and shit too if I am remembering the same one.

I also saw the Star Wars symphony tour when it stopped at the UC in Chicago. That was cool as hell.

I was digging the hell out of that, and so were my 8-12 year old nieces and nephews that I brought with me. At least one of them got interested into classical music.

It was around that time but I think it was 97. There was a big ice storm so it was hard getting there. We kept passing VW buses that had flipped over.

ohhh you def need Mozarts Requiem in D minor. Not upbeat...well it's beat heavy with certain movements the man loved to put his "oooomphs" in there so yah. But it's dark, it's layered, it's scary, it's soothing, it's a spectacle. ITS THE GREATEST 56 MINUTES IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!

I mean that also. It's my favourite composition ever. Funny thing though...he never finished it so what does that say about me being a Mozart fan? My favourite work of his is one that he didn't finish himself lol. But it's good if you ever have the 56 minutes to spare and are just looking to chill out look at a moon for an hour or something. Yah sounds sissy but it's something I do all the time. Classical just has that ability to stop the moments for me and I have really started to like more and more classical over the years. Not an expert in it by any means..i can't talk the talk but I know I like classical now and have enjoyed finding pieces now and just listening to the compositions and the layerings. Something pretty amazing about bringing strings and winds and percussions etc etc all together to create remarkable movement. Pretty fucking awesome and a nice change from the standard bass, guitar, drums and vocals.

Guess what I'm doing Saturday night? 4th row DSO.

A lot of my favorite bands mentioned in this thread and I'm BEYOND HOT! The Doors are overrated? Tool sucks live!?!?!?!?! RAAAAAAAAWR!!!! Completely fucking around in case it isn't obvious. Somebody else's opinion doesn't change the fact that I can't get enough of Jim and the boys and the 5 times I've seen Tool live were amazing to me. Little side note here since somebody mentioned AIC my daughter is named after Layne Staley in a roundabout way. Loved the name for a boy and when I found out we were having a girl, I convinced my wife to add a y at the end. If/when I get my boy, we've already agreed he will be named Morrison after one of the greatest poets and performers of all time.

Now back to the point of this thread. For sure getting to Umphrey's Mcgee @ the Brenton Skate Plaza on June 26th, the 80/35 music and arts festival (Wilco and Weezer headlining, Run the Jewels, Jenny Lewis, Lettuce, Talib Kweli, Fly Golden Eagle, and The Kickback with many many more) July 10th and 11th @ Western Gateway Park, and Slightly Stoopid August 27th @ the Simon Estes Ampitheater. All in downtown Des Moines IA in case none of that looks familiar. Also thinking hard about the Grassroots festival @ Rivers Edge Park July 31st - August 2nd in Council Bluffs IA. Mac Miller, Kid Cudi, Marshall Tucker Band, Blue Oyster Cult, CCR, Skynyrd, POD, Matisyahu, DJ Snake, Lupe Fiasco, and more. Nothing beats getting fucked up and taking in quality live shows outdoors.

I was lucky enough to see Alice In Chains during their first tour. Well west coast tour when they opened for slayer, megadeth and anthrax. They werent big enough to do the full usa swing. Alice In Chains were not warmly welcomed at that show by the thrash metal fans. They had to put up with a lot of shit being thrown at them and Layne did well to throw shit back like a champ including his shoes. He picked off a fan in the head pretty good.

I had never heard of them until seeing them open the show and Layne impressed me so much i went and bought Facelift right away and actually really liked it. That was the exact moment I knew there was a new movement in music coming. We all know what happened on the west coast (although chains were always the heavier of the " grundge" and pacific north west movement). Still know loads of metal fans who haaaaate Alice In Chains but I was drawn right to them from that concert. That to me is one of the best concerts i have ever been too. Also because Megadeth fucking killed it that night, Anthrax stoled the show believe it or not and Slayer was actually a giant failure which made me laugh at the Slayer marks who were the biggest fucking douchebag pretentious thrash metal fans ever. Dont het me wrong i have always liked Slayer but their fans man..their fans...so many goofy fans.

Never had a chance to see Chains before Layne died and have considered seeing them now but not sure I could get past the gaping hole up front. Feel the same away about STP with their new whiny voiced front man Chester. Layne and Scott are guys you can't just replace and while that might not be fair to the new guys, it is what it is.

Yah not just Laynes voice but his charisma on stage also. Impossible to replace that. Not a fan of Chains stuff after Layne passed. Not horrible but has lost that extra punch. STP was a good group but never fully got into them. I was a bit of a pretentious music dickhead at that time also and saw STP as a Chains knock off band. But those are the things one think when they are a pretentious asshole like I was with music. Not like that anymore I really like some of the older Stone Temples stuff now a lot. Hate to think how many other good bands I ignored at that time because I was a ****. Probably a lot.

Totally relate to that man. I went through too long of a period where I was into whatever shit, and I do mean shit, my girlfriend was into at the time. Thank god I finally realized bitches who can't accept my personal tastes can EABOD and **** off. Weiland really rubbed me the wrong way for the longest time and I judged him as a pos so couldn't see what a great performer he was/is. STP made so many great songs and to this day, Interstate Love Song always leaves me wanting more which is exactly what it should do. Perfect track imo.

Cantrell's solo albums are tits. Also, as far as the new chains. He does a TON of the singing and he and Layne always sounded a lot alike.

Love Cantrell. Always wondered why they didn't just put him up front Iinstead of replacing Layne.

Coming to the Allstate in September, tics are expensive and no orchestra:

How did AC/DC manage to sellout Wrigley?. I saw them from the 5th row during their prime, and they weren't very good back then. I have never seen a rock band improve with age, they are as old as my parents.

Yet Stone Temple Pilots at the house of blues still has remaining tics, a more talented group in a more intimate setting.

Anyone going to any upcoming summer shows?...got STP and Alan Parsons tics to look forward to.

OMG Alan Parsons?! I'm jealous as hell.

The talent he brought with him was un-matched in the 30 plus years I have been attending shows. Plus the venue is intimate, only holds 2,500 or so.

Great concert, and one I will hopefully be attending again next year.

He also just happens to be on his way to your state:
