Heres a group that i have struggled with over the years as one that i have liked...hated....respected...back to hated....back to liked.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Under rated or over rated? Or are they right where they should be in music history? What a weird fucking group lol. Love the funk fusion they developed hated the constant california boner rub they never escaped from though. Great albums...boring cliche albums. I dont know where i stand on them personally. Probably get the acclaim they deserve and the critique they also deserve.

Hit or miss. Some stuff I love, some stuff I hate. Really seems like there's no in-between songs with them. I either like them or hate them.

Its a fun subjective topic. I have a hard time with these debates because they are subjective based to the core but i will play cause i love music.

Im not sure if i would put radiohead as underrated myself though. Through the late 90s and 2000s they were probably the most critically acclaimed band on earth with a massive fan base. They also changed a lot of how groups produced music and sold it. If not in north america they are legends in the UK. Also a shit load of bands have claimed them to be large inspirations.

Over rated. First band that comes to my mind is Oasis.
Under rated in my opinion....Mozart!! Lol im serious. Mozart is the first rebel punk rock artist!! Okay okay he probably isnt under rated....im just a massive mozart fan ( im not shy of classical) and i get sick of beethoven fans!! Nerd fight!!

Under rated for real....suicidal tendencies. Yah....im even shocked i picked them but i did. I think they were doing incredibly different things in the late 80s and 90s and were before their time yet still relevant to it if that makes any sense. Might have had to be a metal head at that time to understand the scene and how different suicidal was.

And to give paul a boner...i would put Melvins as under rated and ween. Shit Ween...may actually be the most under rated ever.

Beethoven ***** slaps Mozart any day of the week. I sat at his grave in Vienna and listened to Eroica 20 some years ago. Nothing beats the funeral march in the 2nd movement.

And since I'm going classical.... Shout out to my man Mahler.

War!!!

Excuse me...what great operas did beethoven compose? Ohhhhh yah...zero!! What great requiem did beethoven compose?....nothing!!

Pfffff Mahler...his movements are too long!! Hahaha no hes great. A bit too " romantic" for me but great still.

Lol i like the Beethoven man very much also but amadeus is my boy probably strictly for his requiem and his operas.

Im also a big fan of berlioz and brahms requiem. I love a good requiem.

I think we both can agree though that tchaikovsky is the real *****

I don't listen to much classical, but when I do it's Beethoven. I tried listening to Mozart but it's just too, upbeat. Beethoven has more of a relaxed feel, and I wouldn't know for sure, but I'd guess most of his stuff is done in minor keys. I tend to gravitate to that sound for whatever reason.

LOL. Nerd war. I like it. Big fan of the Brahms Requiem too. How lovely is thy dwelling place is a gorgeous piece. You left off the Verdi requiem if you're a requiem guy.

Not a Mozart opera guy really. I'm more of a Verdi and Puccini guy for that.

Think I'm gonna have to start a monthly classical music thread here tomorrow.

Beethoven was just one angst ridden dude. It really comes out in the music IMO.

ohhh you def need Mozarts Requiem in D minor. Not upbeat...well it's beat heavy with certain movements the man loved to put his "oooomphs" in there so yah. But it's dark, it's layered, it's scary, it's soothing, it's a spectacle. ITS THE GREATEST 56 MINUTES IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!

I mean that also. It's my favourite composition ever. Funny thing though...he never finished it so what does that say about me being a Mozart fan? My favourite work of his is one that he didn't finish himself lol. But it's good if you ever have the 56 minutes to spare and are just looking to chill out look at a moon for an hour or something. Yah sounds sissy but it's something I do all the time. Classical just has that ability to stop the moments for me and I have really started to like more and more classical over the years. Not an expert in it by any means..i can't talk the talk but I know I like classical now and have enjoyed finding pieces now and just listening to the compositions and the layerings. Something pretty amazing about bringing strings and winds and percussions etc etc all together to create remarkable movement. Pretty fucking awesome and a nice change from the standard bass, guitar, drums and vocals.

I left Verdis requiem out because.....its very close to becoming my favorite requiem and I am not brave enough to admit that yet and leave Mozart out to hang lol.

Verdis requiem is a master piece. I downloaded like a 80 hour file of requiems one night and havent gotten through them all yet. Some so far have been trash though but Verdis the first time I heard it? Yah.....cant un-hear it now it's always in my head.

OH DEAR!!!!!

The Queen Of The Night Aria just knocked on your door and wants to have a talk with you!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2ODfuMMyss

COME ON!!! That is nearly an impossible aria to perform and its mind blowing!!! Given..it's Diana Damrau..hot damn. Okay it might have been a bit pretentious on Mozarts part.

Ill talk classical anytime. I need to be exposed to more and to learn more.

Meh, if you're going to go the brooding route Brahms is your guy...he even had an epic beard and was (likely) banging Schumann's wife. Or we could go super metal and:

Edit: the Kyrie in Mozart's Requiem is fucking amazing (badass double fugue).

Yeah man, Shostakovich is super intense; pretty much all of his work has that frenetic, nervous, energy about it (probably a side effect of spending most of his productive life under Stalinism [they didn't particularly get along...Shostakovich spent much of his life with a packed bag under his bed in expectation of a prolonged trip to Siberia]).

If you ever want some random stuff to listen to hit me up, I've spent a decade+ of my life studying and teaching this shit.

Holy SHIT.

Skinny Puppy.

That was one of my all time favorite shows.

I just listened to some tracks off "The Process" the other night after not listening to anything by them in ages and am still impressed with how amazing their sound is. Something from 20 years ago still sounds fresh (less intense than when I first heard it, but still fresh)

I think I have to incorporate that shit back into my playlists...

Yea, once they got away form the earlier "noise" experiments and started pushing into music the artistry is amazing. They were forerunners in music production and had worked some bigger bands to help get things moving forward. What came out of the Wax-Traxx\Network studios and the collaboration of those bands did a ton for music as we know it now.

RHCP - Middle. They have shown the extreme at both ends at times but more along the middle for me. For the 10 or so live shows of theirs that I have seen, I will say that I enjoyed them all. The flaming hats at Lolapalooza (when is toured), was awesome......then again the flaming hats now remind of seeing Ramstein live when they came out with flaming hats on and then said something along the lines of "these hats are as flaming as we are" and then cut into the show.

lol, wut?

You know that Dylan is famous as a writer and not a performer right? Its not news that the covers are always better. lol don't even know what to say.

And knocking Joplin as a singer? lmfao

Dylan sounds like he's wearing nose plugs, and Joplin sang w/a mouthful of gravel.

Has anyone heard the new Backstreet Boys stuff? Actually pretty good.

If you've never heard it... take a listen to this. It gets good around the 4 minute mark if you don't have time for the whole thing. I'd suggest listening and not watching. (Bernstein is a little over the top with his conducting and it distracts IMO. Sure sounds good though)

Just fucking around lol. But your blacks are pretty minstrel and overall pretty white boy shit predominates. You never seen no good hip hop?

I saw Nas on his last tour, because he did all of Illmatic.
DJ Shadow was cool live, but since the release of The Outsider I think his music is meh.
I lucked out and saw Gang Starr in '98 before the feud and the breakup, and Guru rocked it.
Other notable hip hop would be Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Flip Mode, and I saw Black Eyed Peas opening in 1998 before their music became absolute shit.

Non hip hop I've seen and really liked have been Primus, Immortal Lee County Killers, The Moaners, Fiona Apple, Ween, Portishead, Massive Attack, NIN, Ben Folds Five (he had a string quartet with him in '97), Squirrel Nut Zippers, Morphine, Mooney Suzuki, Wild Flag, Tomahawk, High on Fire, Fu Manchu, King Buzzo (solo), Dead Meadow and Rasputina... all off the top of my head. I like shows in smaller venues, so The Empty Bottle or Double Door is a frequently visited establishment.
