Tool is not about the Improv and more about the artistry of the music/song.

Kind of like Skinny Puppy, which is one of my fav's watch live.

And with that I loved DMB live (overrated music, but a very fun live band).

DMB shows are mostly great except for their fuckasshole fans.

Personally, I would also add The Beatles and Nirvana to the list of "Most Overrated". I also know I risk being shot for saying so. And, like your statement, I don't necessarily think they suck, I just think they came along at the right time and are remembered more for starting a wave of music rather than being damned good musicians.

Overrated for starting a wave of music. lol.

Dylan..the male version of Janis Joplin...:puke:

lol, wut?

You know that Dylan is famous as a writer and not a performer right? Its not news that the covers are always better. lol don't even know what to say.

And knocking Joplin as a singer? lmfao

I havent seen a concert in a long time. I think puscifer was the last show i saw. Was good..small venue...i like small venue shows. Never been an arena concert guy unless its a real mega production show full of whores and bikers.

Holy SHIT.

Skinny Puppy.

I think I have to incorporate that shit back into my playlists...

BRAP is fucking phenomenal...get that back into your rotation ASAP.

I saw them live once and was not all that impressed, but their frontman was pretty strung out back then. Those albums are still great to immerse yourself in...the louder the better.

Best small show i went to was venetian snares at reggies rock room in chicago. Empty bottle had all the runner ups.

Nothing worse than a strung out vegan, but i applaud him for his efforts.

I remember a small afterparty for ministry for al jorgs birfday. He had no idea what planet he was on but still had managed an aight performance.

I saw 3 tool shows and I thought they were good. All of em had lots of jamming.

I saw nine in nails 7 times in the day. I was at the show where they filmed for the Hurt video. Or one of them anyway, where they dropped the screen in front of the stage.

I saw nirvana and been to 4-5 pearl jam shows. seen bob dylan, paul simon, jimmy buffet, white zombie, pantera, chili peppers, les claypool frog brigade, primus, peter gabriel, the 4 tops, temptations, dolly parton, devil makes three, mumford and fucks, billy joel, arcade fire, flaming lips like 20 times, willie nelson, elton john, hank II and hank III, jaco pastorius, bela fleck and the flecktones, wooten solo, booker t, and the meters off the top of my head.

Some music is made for arenas. I didn't really appreciate the Who till I saw them in an arena.

Ministry never disappointed live back in their day. That whole Wax Trax scene in the early nineties provided a ton of good shows.

Now I am old and boring...so I hardly get out to shows anymore. I caught Saint Vincent at Pitchfork last year....that was awesome. I will probably be at that Melvins show this summer because I always end up at the Melvins show.

Reverend Horton Heat is still going strong. Their live shows are a blast and another one I always seem to end up at.

I recently debated the most overrated and underrated rock musicians of the past couple decades with a buddy, this is the list (combined) we came up with:

Most Overrated (does not mean IMO they necessarily suck): Bob Dylan, Coldplay, AC/DC, Dave Matthews, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Moody Blues, Def Leppard, Doors, Reo Speedwagon

Most Underrated: Radiohead, Thin Lizzy, Gaslight Anthem, Peter Gabriel

Not a bad list, but the Doors are definitely not overrated. I'd even argue Def Leppard isn't overrated, since people don't really talk about them much.

Overrated for starting a wave of music. lol.

If they didn't do it, someone else would have. Not like they were the only ones making it at the time, just the first to get recognized.
