As the deadline approaches, keep this in mind...

Dennis Bernstein:
Since we're on topic of locker room chemistry, heard at Kings practice from NHL source that tone around Blackhawks not exactly nirvana.

What was Bowman's qualifications for becoming a GM? Im asking because I honestly dont know...

He was the team's "capologist" for multiple years before his promotion. Now that he's moved the Hawks beyond cap hell, he's needs to become more of a talent evaluator and strong business negotiator all while seeing the future of the game. We'll see if he can become that.

While that kind of talk is not new... it's just that... talk. I kinda need a bit more before I panic or even care about the locker room.

And besides, show me a team that has a good locker room around a 9 game road skid.

Not the biggest fan of Kenny Williams but at least he has the balls to do something big.

Stan Blow has an infatuation with fucking draft picks & prospects.

Either grow a pair or GTFO & get somebody with a clue as the GM.

The market is what it is. Even though we all may agree that most of the guys who were moved were moved at a steep price, it's obviously the cost of doing business here and now.

or you could say that the chemistry caused the 9 game losing streak.

Chemistry is not needed in baseball since its an individual sport, see the A's of prime years...but in a team game like this, its crucial to have some sort of chemistry.

Here is the thing though...you can't just say "Aww stan bowman blows...GTFO!" Im sure that any trades go through other facets including his father ( a legend in hockey) so the "problem" is deeper than just Stan

Papa was a legend coach. Not a legend general manager--in fact wasn't he a pretty bad GM--which is why when he was hired by Detriot, there was no way they were allowing him GM duties. Big difference between coach and manager.

Dennis Bernstein:

Isn't this the second time something of this sort has leaked? That's if it's the players...trouble in paradise?

Coaches can see talent better than GM's IMO

a coach knows how a player will affect a team...positively or negatively

a coach will see that this team isnt playing as well as it should and it needs an addition of a player

All I heard was that Detroit was too old.

Well that old "team" has given up 37 LESS goals than the Hawks.

RE: $5 million

I'm getting used to the fact that players just cost more money now. It started with the d-man bonanza this past summer and it just keeps going.

And like everyone has rightfully been saying-the Hawks cleared cap space when the ditched Campbell. Now they just need to use it.

coaches can see talent just as well as the GM in a lot of cases.

Where the GM gets lost is the fact that he is NOT at every practice or event to see what each specific player is doing...bad or good skill wise and or habits, attitude etc..GM relys on the coach.

When it comes to games, the GMs are usually at every game, I know Tallon was, they take what they see from specific game to game basis and add info from the coaches perspective to evaluate a given situation.

That's the Mike Keenan theory- but they wouldn't actually let him do both. As I understand it he wanted to put a package together for Lindros.. plus other things.

Not that I don't find it valid - actually I kind of do... but yeah -we'll see- we'll end up with a Nick Boynton clone and call it good. :D

You guys are arguing C. The priority MUST BE GETTING LEDDY OUT OF THE TOP 4, period. He is horrible in his own zone and costing this team gameS.

I buy this- everything I have read in the Trib when this kid is getting quoted reminds me of kids on rec teams that can score some points -then call it good, forget actually playing the position.

I suppose he might figure things out some day, but now he just strikes me as a know-it-all kid who doesn't. And vets eat guys like that for dinner out there.

I agree. I think he will be fine. I just dont think he was what we thought he was going to be, a brian campbell replacement.

Still too much of a load but that's happens when your head coach thinks John Scott is a d-man or NHL quality. :pity:
