I would be dumbfounded it Dale took that position with knowing they are not going to allow $$$ to be spent this season. We will find that out shortly. I agree with Dale building through youth but you know he is going to get a big name or two this offseason. He really has to show their desire to be a serious contender and to prove to the fans of their commitment.

If the wallet is not opened for DT it will be very disappointing to witness and honestly an insult to DT and the fans. Alot of fans are hanging around to see what Dale is going to do and if he is handcuffed, well then, that franchise is really going to struggle IMO.

Tallon will have to open the Florida wallet. The cap minimum last season was $40.8 million and will increase for the 2011-12 season. The Panthers have about 10 players under contract for about $18 million and their RFA's won't command big dollars-about a million per season at most.

And the Blackhawks were where four seasons ago?

Did Florida's owner die and I missed it? Do they have a loyal fanbase just waiting to come back and fill up the arena, and dramatically increase revenue? They're in Florida for ****'s sake. Or did you forget this? Are they going to be able to spend to the cap? Did they draft elite players or something? Is there a Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook in this upcoming draft that they are going to land, which will propel them from total bottom feeder, to elite, within a couple years time?

Their leading scorer last year scored 49 points. They still haven't found a head coach. The only player they've had over the last four years that has kept them even remotely competitive, is on his way out. How PATHETIC is that team without Vokoun? While they're a young team with some potential, there is absolutely nothing there that leads me to believe they're winning the cup within the next four years. OR LESS, as you said. They don't have a Crosby, Malkin, Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp, Pronger, St. Louis, Lecavalier, Getzlaf, or Niedermayer.... Winning the cup isn't exactly easy...

They would be more likely to be relocated within four years time, than win the cup. Your love of DT is blinding you. That organization is a joke.

So you say.............

Ummm, Tampa Bay is in Florida, right?

Umm, DT built a winning Cup team in about that same time period, right?

Umm, how long has Q been head coach again?

I know you will have retorts for my commentary but the end thought is this, if they let Dale build this team and

give him the $$$ to do so, I have faith that if anyone can make it happen it is Dale Tallon.

Can he make it happen? Anything is possible. Will it happen in four years or less, like you said? Maybe. I could maybe win the lotto tomorrow too. Chances are about the same I think.

Let's see what happens in the next few months and then discuss again.

I think DT is going to surprise many in the NHL community.

Graham took his ball and went home, Cid still lurks, and I think Whalerhawk got too busy...

Now to get back on track, my point about Niemi was that we could have signed him for the 2.75 he won in arbitration, but he wasn't deemed worth that, and they just signed corey to 2.66 mil a year deal? Was Niemi really not worth about 90k? Especially when we see he went on to sign a much more lucrative contract. Now I know it would have been for only one year I believe... and we didn't have cap room, but looking at it, I'd say Niemi at 2.75 for 1 year was a much better deal than Hammer at 3.5 for 4 years. Especially with the bonus coming off the cap next year. I guess you can't be captain hindsight of course, but 2.66 for 3 years for crawford as "amazing" when 2.75 for Niemi was way too much. Everyone around here said it should have been closer to 2.

Whaler got mad at me for disagreeing.

They have more cap space this year. Which is why they were able to sign Crawford. You left that out.

I'm of the opinion that Crawford should have been around 2 as well, so I'm right there with you. Crawford and Niemi are pretty interchangeable, so I don't see the reason for the double standard now... Jimmy Howard is making around 2.25. I think that number would have been good for Crawford, and Howard actually has another year under his belt.

Yes, and they could have had it last year without Hammer, or did you miss that part? It still doesn't matter because I too see them as pretty interchangeable, and last year at this time everyone screamed that 2.75 was way too much for Niemi, yet here we are praising 2.66 for Crawford as a great deal. It doesn't add up.

This year you could have kept them both. THere is more to go around. I think anyone comparing Howard is an idiot. The Wings and Holland always get more of a discount. Or appear too. I think 2.6 was about right. Maybe slightly high but not much. He had a great year and the team he's behind will be much better and more hungry next year. Looking at Niemi's 4 mil and Arb award I'm guessing Arbitration would have put hit close and no way were they going to risk Arbitration.
