It seems like most people I have been hearing on the Score and the broadcast said that he ought to have been called safe. I don't know the rule well enough myself to say for certain.I wrote a blog trying to figure out that call at 2B against the Cubs. If you guys know the obstruction rule better than I, I'd appreciate some input because I'm having a hard time understanding why a fielder is allowed to launch at and knock a guy off the bag like that.

I linked to the MLB.com runner rule (Rule 7) and obstruction is covered in rule 7.06 but is really open to interpretation. The umpire's saving grace is that I can't actually find the statement where it says "thou shalt not knock a player off a base" so I am leaving that open as a possibility for why he was called out.
