Didn't the Book say that batter the pitcher 8th to allow the extra leadoff guy at #9 didn't do much to the offense? That being said, couldn't hurt to try and it'd be quirky and fun :D

I thought there was some evidence to suggest that batting a position player 9th was more optimal than the pitcher, but I don't recall specifically where.

The one I saw was in The Book. I'd have to re-read the chapter, it was probably the one on lineup construction.

Ah, good, relievers who can throw strikes. Whether those strikes stay in the park is a different story :D

Well no more runs can score today for me to be under 9.5

There at 9 runs right now for series for both teams

It will be over for combined. The real question is can the Cubs score more than 3 runs this series.

Why do people think the Zambrano and Byrd deals were bad?

Zambrano quit on his team last year.

Byrd's OBP was lower than his weight.

Its all the money that the cubs are eating to make players go away. They are doing it too much and it could cost the team if the bottom line is projected the way that the forecasters for the cubs predicted. hovering around .500 fans will still probably go to games, not in droves, but they will go....a team like this in july and it will be a ghost town.

Some places can get away with it like the sox for example.reinsdorf is fithy rich and only uses the sox for "hobby". ricketts has to make money, people have to go.

Carrie Muskat‏@CarrieMuskat

Asked Kevin Orie how he dealt with #Cubs 14-game skid in '97, and he said "Don't talk to the media." He's now doing radio pre/post in Pitt

He was Cubs Ian Stewart back in the 90's.
