It's probably because the defensive component of WAR is poorly conceived. Depends on which calculation you use to do WAR as well.

Exactly. I just cant stand how people use WAR to judget a player when 50% of the equation is awfull. So to me WAR is 50% awfull

You don't get to fill out your roster with all stars in every spot. If he can get his bat to average, which he has done to this point, he is a useful starter. That doesn't mean he is amazing.

No one is saying Shark is untouchable, but I think like Castro it is hard to make the call on what he is truly worth. Right now he looks like he could be a top of the rotation starter without a ton of mileage on his arm. Coudl that fall apart? Of course, but we don't know these things yet.

I think he was prepared to make a specific play and had a brain fart. Sometimes that happens no matter how much you prepare. I think Sveum would rather see less brain farts though.
