To put this into perspective, league average in runs in the NL last year was 4 IIRC. In 27 innings the two teams have scored a combined 7 runs. #DeadballEra

On the plus side if they make it through this inning Bonifacio bats again so that's like a guaranteed hit.

Listen Ari Bear, we have to have an important talk that every Cub fan goes through. In all honesty, we are actually worse than the Pirates. Even on their 20 year losing streak, we still tie them with World Series rings.....0. And the worst playoff W-L in the history of all modern era sports

What, are the Cubs like 1 for 27 with RISP?

On a good day. Whenever the Cubs score a run, I feel like we just won a playoff series. It's that much of a success and team effort that so many variables clicked at the same time.

The silver linings is that the starting pitching and glut of the bullpen has looked pretty darn good. I like what I saw from both starters so far. Veras had a disappointing inning and Villaneueva has had some terrible luck. 1 for 16 last night with RISP just isn't going to get it done. We'd be foolish to think it'd continue, but my real concern is that both of these games were extremely winnable given how well the starters have thrown and we haven't been able to capitalize on a large amount of opportunities. It was a light night and they'll be back at it again today at 12:25 EST -- hope they get some sleep, or it'll be another long day at the office.

I'm hoping Rick is learning from these games:

Bonifacio: 9 for 12
Valbuena: 3 for 6
Lake: 3 for 9.

That should be the everyday 1-3 in the line up until Castro starts going. Castro has been killing innings. Rizzo also but he did HR. Debatable either him or Schierholtz hitting 4 right now.

But they are hitting. They just need to keep the productive ones together and then ones trying to get it going not splitting them up.

It's interesting that fans will sometimes forget that just like players, managers learn and get better as well. This is Renteria's first managing gig at the major league level. He still has plenty to learn. I think he's handled himself well so far (including Spring training) but I think his biggest growth is going to be figuring out the optimum lineup to produce runs this year.
