The Cubs are reportedly talking to former CY winner Brandon Webb.

Thoughts? I am all for this signing and I think he's the best option on the FA market. I know he's coming off surgery, but if he's healthy, he's tough. But, if he is injured, we could see a younger pitcher pitch. Then, signing other vets who would stay healthy, would take time away from younger pitchers.

Uhhh no...lol.

But, I read somewhere he's looking for at least 5-7M base, plus incentives.

I would offer 4M with 3M in incentives.

I'd love this if we pay him less than 5 million up front. Add in a bunch of incentives.

Webb would be solid. Probably will never be the pitcher he once was, but if nothing else could help teach younger pitchers how to do work. $4.5M + 4.5M in incentives sounds right.

I don't understand why you guys wanna go pay someone who hasn't pitched in 2 years...

bc we know what he can do. If he's washed up and doesn't pitch for us? meh...we've spent 4.5M on worse.

What he used to be able to do. I would be fine with a gamble on him, but not if he has been hitting 80 on the gun with his heater. If he has improved that, then yeah, let's gamble on him. But, not if it is going to cost more than 5 MM.

Hey, why not? It's worth a shot. And of course, the signing would voided if he couldn't pass a physical, so I'm not overly concerned about his arm yet, because we'll just see. Isn't that what the purpose of a physical is or am I mistaking?

Even with the cubs track record of bad signings, i highly doubt they would sign him to 5 mil per if he is hitting 80 MPH on his fast ball, i doubt any team would. So if they do sign him, that wouldnt have to be a concern. I would be more worried about his sinker.

Ya, he has strategy too, all former Cy Young Awards winners do.

in what way?

Well, he never would have won a Cy Young if he had no strategy and just threw fastballs. The man knows what he's doing.

I understand, but the question remains if his body will let him perform. his mechanics may change due to the injury.
