I wonder if that will mean no Kerry Wood then. Not sure I would like that then. Although, Webb is one of my favorite non-Cubs.
Webb has a career 3.50, with only one season above 4. He's basically a God when healthy.

no, I still think kerry wood will be back as well.
Webb is a selling point to the average fan "we signed webb, he is a former cy young winner" and giving the average fan false hope, with kerry wood it will appease the meatballs for sure.
I think Wood would be a selling point to an average fan.
"Look dude, we got Kerry Wood, he struck out 20 once! Our BP sucked last year, he's gonna make a huge difference pitching about 60 innings all year, bro! We're gonna win the World Series!"
marketing at its finest. smart business, just sucks for the serious cub fan.
Do you mean the owners having that mindset, or actually getting Wood?
Both I think.Do you mean the owners having that mindset, or actually getting Wood?
Both I think.
IMO I'd only sign Webb if he takes a cheap, incentive-laden deal. But with all the teams interested in him, his price will go up.
If Jon Garland can get $5 million, I'm sure Webb can. And with the starting pitching being so limited, teams will overpay.Yes, but how many are going to be willing to pay 5 million on a guy who is a big question mark? For that matter, how many are going to have 5 million. I bet that there are only 3 or 4 teams that are seriously considering him.

But with Garland, you need a good defense for him to succeed. He should thrive in the pitchers park that is Dodgers Stadium, especially at night. I agree that Webb will get somewhere around $6-7 million, but for whoever signs him, I bet that contract will be heavily incentive-ladenI see where you are coming from, but with Garland you know you are going to get 200 innings of league average baseball. With Webb, you get feast or famine. I think that Webb will probably get 6MM or 7MM.

Ya, kind of like Nady's contract, but more $, a lot more.
He's a ground ball pitcher, it doesn't really matter what stadium he pitches in. However, you bring up a good point about defense. Just another reason I'm happy the Cubs didn't get him.
Don't ever mention Nady with Brandon Webb. Ever. You should be shot for that.
For pointing out that Nady had an incentive-laden contract like what was suggested for Webb I should be shot?
Let me show you.
If Webb is right here on the scale of being good,
Nady is right about here.
I never compared how good they were and I said that Webb would get a lot more money though but just have multiple incentives for him. I NEVER said they were even remotely close in talent.
God Damn, do you have a sense of humor at all?
The Cubs are the closest he'll get to his home in KentuckyI have no idea what that has to do with having a sense of humor.
Anyway, Rosenthal says that the interest is mutual between the Cubs and Webb.
