Magic Number is down to 5

With Pittsburgh in sight, they won't let up now.

This may go to the end, but Maddon IMO will target Arrieta to throw the first game regardless, even if it means throwing a lesser pitcher at the end of the season to catch or stay ahead of the Pirates.

When they clinch a spot however, he might start getting some regular position players a little rest.

At this point, we could go 0 for the rest of the season and SFG or WSH would have to o 9-4 just to catch us, I love being good.

With the off day Thursday, all Maddon needs to do is pitch Arrieta on Sunday with 4 days rest over what would be his scheduled start on Monday to have him set up for that Wednesday with normal rest..

Looking at the way they are playing, and the schedule I think they go 9-4 the rest of the way. They probably will be officially in the playoffs by this coming Wednesday or Thursday. Maybe it's only 8-5 if everything is locked up including home field for the WC and we see some crazy lineups in the last few game against the Brewers. Still I'm thinking 95 games here, maybe 96. Who would have thought that?

They are skipping Haren. Pirates series will be Lester, Hammel, Arrieta

So Arrieta would pitch the 27th to close the Pirates series. His last reg start 2nd Sep vs the Crew. The NL WC game falls on the 7th. 5 days rest. So he is already lined up.

I'm guessing you mean Oct 2nd.

But pitching on the 7th means 4 days rest, which is normal. But not 5.

I will be rooting for the Cubs to beat the Pirates 3 times in the upcoming series.

But I would prefer the Cards in a one game playoff and the Pirates in a 5 game series to the opposite.

2nd: Arrieta
3rd: Hendricks
4th: Haren
5th: OFF
6th: Off (AL WC)
7th: Arrieta.

Normal rest

Not sure what the play off sced would be after. Right now they have Lester and Hammel lined up with Arrieta getting game 3.

MLB says Cole, Liriano and TBD for the series with the Cubs. Cole is tough but Liriano is a major pain in the ass.

Hendricks is lining up vs KC. That game I'm concerned with.

Hammel has been meh. Odds are he will lose vs Lirano. Lester vs Cole is a push. Either could win. Arrieta trumps anything Pitt has. 2-1 I'm predicting.

5 game series and that how it will start...

Depending how it goes, not a good feeling if Hammel is needed to win game 5..

It almost to the point where Lester and Arrieta must win their starts to get past the NLDS
