What would you think of Brandon Drury to possibly play 3B or be a RHB versus lefties and play 1B on a short term deal, say 2-3Y/8M AAV?
Levine keeps pushing out Trey Mancini and Confronto

So the Cubs last year were a 74 win team. The second half they were winning at a 90 win pace, unsustainable I know.
With the moves of Taillon, Swanson and Bellinger, we can argue they have added about ten wins, if they are healthy. So maybe we can scratch them in for about 84 wins?

Now if they add Mancini and Conforto it could be another 3-5 wins.

Adding those two allows Jed to keep Davis and Mervis in Iowa until they both kick the door down.

I am good with that.

I would say that they are .500 right now. Adding those two addresses 1B and DH.

There are a few variables going on but a gauge is 86 and in the wild card hunt if they add those two and all players put up avg production vs all star levels

This upcoming offseason is a big one for the Chicago Cubs. They are in a position to possibly add a star to the fold, something they desperately need.
What do you guys think the Cubs biggest offseason needs are?
2022 was not a brutal season, we had already traded most of the team and still won74 games. 2022 was a lot of fun...

Fun no. Painful a bit.

2022 the best thing was it ended. 2nd best was Steele proving to be a MLB starter. He is the first self developed starting pitcher to be drafted and groomed all the way up.

So ya I can take a piece here and there and say. Cool they did that.

But when you really look at it? No injury wrecked the pitching staff and they bubble gummed ananswer.

Maybe the best way to view 2022. Going into a gun fight with a nerf gun.

This year is a slingshot. Can kill ya if you don't take seriously

The first half was awful, but the second half was quite solid, with a lot of fun wins at Wrigley. You need to lighten up a bit.

No. If I wanted lite fun then MiLB or a comedy will do.

2nd half was the pitching staff for the most part. Sampson over played his talent. You can also put that on him being a scrub that no one bothered to scout and something clicked

Steele burnt out but that is expected with a younger guy building up.

But when ownership is charging top dollar then fans should expect more. Not Schwndel, Wisdom and what his face in CF. Err DH.

Injuries happen. Going in to the season with a nerf gun on a 3.8 billion net worth team is a bit of a reach

So yes the first half was injury and Jed aiming for a mulligan to sell off rentals

2nd half was players getting healthy and teams not knowing who is on first what on second and wtf on 3b.

Because billionaires become and stay billionaires by just throwing money at their problems instead of formulating plans and trying to predict where the market is leading?

When you say fans should expect more, what is the more you want? Have they not turned the farm system around from depleted to multiple prospects after trying to extend the 2015 window in essentially 2 seasons? Should they have outbid those other teams to bring in those FAs the past two years, perhaps being even worse contracts, and putting the team in CBT crisis? Maybe they should have gone 6/170M for Rodon and 2/35M for Josh Bell. The Mets spent over 250M last year. They made the playoffs, but didn't even win the pennant. Teams have to rebuild sometimes. Only the Dodgers have been really good for a decade.

Maybe inject some realism in your expectations.

Not really. I always knew they were joke players and 2021 it was perfectly fine 2022 Jed pushing them out was a red flag. 2 of the 3 were AAAA players that had their 5 min of fame and the league figured them out and they went back to being scabs. Wisdom wrecks the ball when he gets a pitch to hit. His D don't suck. So he stuck and has a place this year.

That is why Sampson is a red flag if he breaks camp as a SP vs MR. Now I doubt Jed would do this after signing Dansby.

Tailon
Stroman
Steele
Hendricks
Sampson

Fansgraph prediction

Now swap Hayden and Sampson.

Pen:

MR:
Sampson
Thompson

LH
Hughes

SU/Closer
Alozay
Boxberger
Wick
Heuer

So targeting a 2nd lefty makes sense. Andrew Chafin would be a smart signing. He had success in his last stint and would slot on as the prime lefty.

Oh, stop.

We’re not buying this new “I always knew they were joke players“ bit.

You touted wisdom as a gold glove third baseman and we all know you had or still have a frank Schwindel fat head on your bedroom wall.

Ok right. You got me. My Schwindel teddy had to go into the dryer after he signed to the KBO and I had to sell all my Schwidom stocks.

It was a trying moment.

If true would be interesting going 5/3/1 for the start of the season.

5 from starter
3 from middle reliever
1 for closer.

Cubs would have

Thompson, Sampson, Hayden as 3 inning guys.
Heuer, Wick, Boxberger as 9th inning.

Leaves Alzolay and Hughes for mid inning stoppers.

Why would wesneski not be a starter?

But on Cubs players in general. I am not the type of fan that idolizes players. I respect players for what they have done and have expectations of what they could bring to the Cubs.

I would say that I am a Cubs fan before a player fan. If said player is winning games for the team I like them at that moment. When the fad ends I don't get attached

Current projections show Cubs as a .500 team as is....
It will obviously project better if we get Conforto and a first basemen with power.

Also Correa contract has a decent chance of getting voided, because of physical.

Is there anything actually saying that on Correa or just a gut feeling?
