Cubs are going to be all in on Harper. They are going to want to move OF and see if someone will take Heyward.

How does adding another OF with Harper possible future solve anything?

Not sure of your question here..

First off Redsox wont trade Benitendi..
I was just saying it would be nice

But if they did.. hed play CF
Harper would play LF or RF next year..

So , not sure what youre questioning

How do you induce someone to opt out? Makes no sense
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

And basically you tell him he has a choice of being traded to whoever makes the best offer or he can opt out and pick his own team as a FA

Yeah, and i guess it would be great if the Angels traded us Trout. Bettideni makes zero sense given our needs, so why are you even talking about it?

Also Heyward is not going to opt out given no one will pay him more, so why are you talking about it?

You been drinking this morning?

Who talking about it...lol

I origionally said a Schwarber trade with RS would most likely take a 3 way trade cause they have no pitching to give up..

I was being sarcastic as it would be nice with Benintendi..
I know the RS wont trade him...
But i don't know anyone that wouldn't take him in CF everyday..

Why am i talking about Heyward?
Well, Silence brought him up and well i just threw in my 2 cents [emoji6]

The MLBPA would never allow that to happen. They’d demand an investigation. They don’t like guys giving up money even if their own volition.

Here is your main point. => upgrade.

Define upgrade? Bring in some one else. Or improve what you have. The pen in general increased in B.B./9 last year. So the fired Bosio and hired Hickey with the mandate of getting BB/9 under control.

The pen has talent. What needs to be focused on is attacking the strike zone. The Dodgers exploited that weakness.

I personally am not majorly concerned with it. Rondon was going to make 6 mil and he is not worth that. Maples should be in a limited role and called in to get 1 guy. He is a fine replacement for him.

Duesing was replaced by Wilson last year. Alvarez is the 3rd lefty. He is a LOOGY which Wilson is not. His splits are better vs RH batters. So he fits a need. Get a tough lefty out.

That is just specializing the pen and giving Hickey tools to work with. They probably need a 2 inning righty more than Grimm honestly. So I can buy that.

I would look at it as job role vs name value. 2 inning pitcher. Strike out spec. Etc. it keeps it in perspective. Just looking at it from a name value increases payroll more than anythinf else
Here one that could be an upgrade..

Brandon Morrow

I said they could add 2 other relievers plus a Closer..

Their close to adding one

At $10-11 mil AAV over 2 years don't hate the Morrow signing though I'm a bit concerned that may be their top end. I think i'd be pretty happy with him as the 8th inning guy rather than a closer. I'm really not that thrilled that they apparently still are heavily in on Cobb though.

That money indicates Morrow IS the closer. I would expect them to sign another guy who CAN close se though as an insurance policy.

I hope not (Morrow as Closer)

That would actually be a down grade from Davis in that spot... IMO

I realize Justin Wilson had a very rough go with the Cubs last year after he came over, but I refuse to believe he is just done.

I think they felt he has a lot of potential, and I still believe he will be a big part of their pen.

He lost control, but it's not like he lost velocity or had a serious injury. Clearly, velocity without control won't mean a lot. But I think it was a psychological thing, vs. physical.

The Cubs will have about 3 months of regular season ball to see who their closer its. Between Wilson, Morrow, Edwards and Maples I'd imagine one of them can step up and be the guy. Bullpens are all about who is hot that year.

Morrow is drastically less future money for probably 95% the pitcher Davis is. I think Morrow needs more maintenance than Wade but it's not like Wade was some guy who went 80-85 innings a year so I'd much rather have a two+ commitment than the likely four Wade will cost. Also, Morrow at 10-12 AAV is a high value reliever even if he becomes a top flight setup guy; Wade at 4/60+ has to be a lights out closer and his numbers have gotten worse each of the last three years.

You obviously get nervous about his lack of durability the past few years but you love his stuff. The Dodgers obviously found something in there that was lurking but was never really present and you get nervous with that since it's a new team but I think with the new pitching staff in the organization that they know what they're doing with Morrow.

I'm praying the Cobb thing is a favor to his agent and the player and not a real thing because I don't get committing nearly 30 million to Cobb/Chatwood.

I really doubt they signed Morrow to close...

Just wouldnt make sense having a 33 YO doing it for the first time, and if he craps out in that spot, then their where they were in 16 looking for a closer at the deadline and spending young prospects they dont need to if they just addressed it now..

I said the other day..
Epstein and Hoyer are going to make sure they have a strong pen going into the playoffs...

They get Wilson to bounce back with Edwards Strop and Morrow
You got the 7th and 8th inning covered

Just need that Closer for the 9th

Monty covers long relief, spot starts ETC.
Maybe find a RH or Butler for long relief and spot starts

Alvarez Zastryzny Maples and Grimm
