probably wont be for awhile after today given the holiday.

They were talking on MLB Radio yesterday about how Christmas is sort of an artificial "deadline" of sorts in part driven by players wanting to be settled before spending time with their families and also GM's looking to do the same after probably working 18-19 hour days since the conclusion of the World Series. I would not be surprised to see another flurry of signings and/or deals between now and Sunday.

First, it was Ken Rosenthal indicating that the Yankees and Dodgers were still interested in Darvish, and now it’s the New York Post, quoting a source who says, “They are sniffing around in case the price drops” from the reported $20 to $25 million annually.

^From BN but the post citing $20-25 mil being Darvish's range seems to fit into my rough guess of 6/$140($23.3 mil AAV).

So was looking at Bryce Harper's stats because saw a tweet mentioning him and bryant were doing game night. Fun fact, Harper has never had 100 RBI's in his 6 MLB seasons. Most he ever had was 99 in 2015. Second highest is 87.

RBI's are a product of who gets on base in front of you, not your own hitting. In 2015, Harper had only 45 of his 654 PA with a runner on third base. That's once every 14.5 PA so basically twice a week Harper got to hit with a runner on third. To compare, Stanton and his 132 RBI had 76 PA with a runner on third base for once every 9.3 PA meaning he got an extra PA each week over the season with a runner on third than Harper.

I understand the idea of RBI's being a flawed stat. I just thought it was interesting how baseball has changed. Harper is arguably the 2nd best player in baseball according to most after Trout and historically 100 RBI's has been a big deal. The juxtaposition between those two things just struck me as interesting.

Thus far, free agent righty Alex Cobb “is thought to have been asking for about $20 million a year,” Heyman writes, noting that his agents may view Mike Leake as a comp. Of course, Cobb is older and less durable than Leake was when he hit the open market, though Cobb also has a loftier established ceiling on the mound (at least, dating to his output before undergoing Tommy John surgery).

Now Sea is paying Leake 11 mil per with Stl covering the rest each year. Even then he never scales over 18 mil AAV.

This agent is pricing Cobb wrong. He is a 15 mil per top end due to TJ performance and age.

Cubs have apparently signed Kyle Ryan as a LH reliever. I'm guessing it's a minor league deal as he's not particularly impressive statistically.

He had a solid year in 55 innings in 2016 with a GB rate of 56.1%. I don't know what happened in 2017 as he was ineffective in both AAA and a brief stint in MLB. Still he's a 26 year old arm with a high GB rate, I'm not surprised they signed him, but sure you'd expect him to ride the Iowa shuttle. You can never have too many pen arms.
