tampa just traded Longoria to the Giants. Looks like they may be going full sell mode.

eff Passan

@JeffPassan
Source: Giants get Evan Longoria for Christian Arroyo, Denard Span, Matt Krook and Stephen Woods.

They needed to cut payroll and when the season starts Longoria’s No trade rights come into effect. What they did was survive in a bad market.

If it signifies anything is now they don’t need to sell anything to get in budget. Thus taking any leverage away from buyers.

Saw a Shelby Miller for Heyward trade rumor

No, that was a description of what the Orioles would be looking for in dealing Machado, an up and coming pitching prospect for him which is what Miller was when he was dealt for Heyward in the final year of his deal.

Maybe, but when you trade the face of your franchise you're probably signaling a rebuild. They're absolutely loaded with young pitching so with some positional help you would think it could be a short process. Maybe 2 years.

I'd like to see that link because the Heyward-Miller trade of 2015 has been mentioned several times in pieces about how it could be a precedent for a Machado deal.

Cubs should sign tim lincecum to a 1 yr deal and have him close...

He would warrant a look but we don’t even have legit radar gun readings. He came in pitching 94 then down to the low 90’s. When he again dropped to 90 his ERA ballooned. His final year he was at 87.7 and got ripped apart.

He looks in shape but that doesn’t amount to anything. What matters with him is velocity as his success has been bound to it.

Definately...

Have him start out in Iowa and see if he can help the pen later in season..

Schwarber can not even catch a pitch, let alone call a game, frame pitches handle pitches in the dirt, and throw people out trying to steal.

Contreras needs to improve framing and calling a game, but hits and has a cannon. It would be beyond insane to replace him with a man who can't catch a fastball.

But you want a backup catcher who cant hit to give Contrares the occasional day off, yet Schwarber is not even in that conversation. So burn a spot on the 25 man roster for someone who cant hit but can catch.

how did you calculate that?

Did not calculate anything. The suggestion was that he would have to study hitters and spend time studying instead of whatever he was doing in preparation to hit .200 again. My example was, ok, if he is studying hitters, he might see that a certain opposition player hits .350 the opposite way, which would mean if you go away, go way away, not on the plate away. That may eventually help himself looking to drive the ball away, not ground out to right field.

That logic is flawed. When you drive the ball to oppi on purpose it takes a inside out swing. Schwarber’s oppi’s are a result of late timing

Catching has nothing to do with it.

What he needs to do is narrow his selection in pitch location. Early could only offer on pitches that he can drive. Behind open up to protect the plate.

Cubs signed Ryan Court to a minor league deal. Played 38 games in LF last year, 41 at SS, 3 at 3B, 11 at 2B, 15 at 1B. So, looks like he's a fairly versatile utility guy. Never played in the majors which is sorta surprising given he's hit .276/.365/.423 in the minors and seems to be fairly useful as a bench guy. Doesn't have terrible much speed and or power though.

Sounds like Schwarber is finally working on hitting the ball where it's pitched
