“Some in the Cubs organization believe Ramirez's admitted use of performance-enhancing drugs was instrumental in spoiling what could have been their dream season.” Read the full Chicago Tribune article

As long as the Cub organization fails to be accountable for their own shortcomings, they’ll never win a pie eating contest let alone a pennant or WS. That 2008 collapse was the biggest choke job I’ve ever seen (Dempster walking more guys in Game 1 than he had in the month of September, The entire infield committing an error in Game 2 for the first time in MLB since the 1920s, no hitting whatsoever, Pinella looking scared and lost). And now they’re using Manny as an excuse?

no where in there does it say specific members of the Cubs org that said that...and I've never heard it before...

Hell, I've heard several Cubs players just admit they got beat/beat themselves in that disaster of a series...

Sounds like a big non-story for White Sox fans to pay particular attention to.

Just a thought about our short comings

Jim Henry needs to go we need to bulid though the farm system and not get guys who are at the end of there prime Fonzo, Bradley, Byrd, and pay them tons of money in there 30s. We need to start paying them how the Cardinals did with Albert and the Rays did with Longuria and the rockies did with Carlos Gonzo and Tulo when they are 24-25 pay them top dollar not in there 30's. I really hope we dont pay Pujols 300m next year it will be a mistake by the time he is 35. We have the funds to be contenders we just bulid our team the wrong way.

well, that, and we didn't draf Albert, Longoria, CarGo or Tulo...I mean, having them in your system initially is the 1st step. But I agree, I won't be real upset when Hendry goes.

I was suspicious as well that Paul Sullivan doesn't cite specific sources; but Sullivan is a pro and not someone I'd think would just conjure up some "unnamed sources" to back up a story angle.

Also hard to do when you ship out 2 of your top prospects for a middle of the rotation pitcher.

We have had plenty of young talent who can be decent major leaguers and Castro looks like a stud in the making. Think about if the Pirates had the Cubs funds. They would be playoff team damm near every year. There problem is they can't afford to keep thier young talent they always trade them. Same with the Marlins Rays and a few other teams.

Who were they? You know their names w/out looking them up?

We need better talent scouts, that'd be the first big step.

Starlin COULD be special...but no promises...we kept him...same w/ Cash. We did well in the 90's/2000's w/ Wood, Prior and Z...look how that panned out for us.

Yes, but 2 that matter. I like Guyer, but he isn't anything special. I feel he has already been replaced by Szczur.

Archer and Lee.

And don't even bring up that rotation. That feel on upper management for hiring Dusty Baker. All he does is kill young pitchers, look at the reds right now.

Ya, we know their names without looking them up, Chris Archer and Hak-Ju Lee.

Those names just sound a lot like Hee-Seop Choi and Corey Patterson.

Corey was great until an injury robbed him of his power, then he turned into a swing and miss singles hitter. remember this year? 2003? He was up for the last All Star Spot. 13 dongs, 55 rbis, 16 steals, .298 average and an injury right before the break. Project that. 25 homers, 100 rbis, 30 steals, and a .290ish average. I think any team in the league would have taken that plus his center-field defense.

Choi just flat out sucked.

Choi was hyped just as much...

and other players have bounced back from injuries. He had a helluva 1st half of one season. How many players have done that?
