Dud alert:

CHICAGO -- Cubs prospect Jorge Soler is sidelined again this season, this time with a right hamstring strain.

Soler, who had a left hamstring strain in Spring Training, was examined by Cubs doctors in Chicago. The outfielder, who is playing for Double-A Tennessee, is now on a new program to promote better muscular balance, according to Cubs player development director Jason McLeod.

Soler will rehab at the Cubs' facility in Mesa, Ariz., and then rejoin the Tennessee team.

The Cuban outfielder has played just seven games, batting .333 (8-for-24) with seven doubles and seven RBIs.

I remember an oft-injured Jim Edmonds before he got traded to the Cardinals, so players can go long stretches without being injured. Just have to be patient and let him iron out the kinks.

Their has to be programs designed for players like this, and hamstrings have been around forever.

I remember watching that espn draft academy thing for the NFL draft and they had a player think it was Marquise Lee who had a history of leg injuries. Anyways, they were training him to run differently as odd as that sounds because how ever he was doing it apparently can cause injuries. It seemed kind of crazy until you think about pitching mechanics and how teams try to change players motion all the time in that regard. Had something to do with using his gluts more

@GDubCub: Call him up: Baez 4-for-5 w/ HR today, pushes average over .200 for first time this season.

He is getting warm. He has over a 1.400 OPS in the last seven games. He has only had one bad strikeout game since he started to heat up. Lets hope this trend continues. When Baez gets hot, he gets Soriano hot.

It appears Cubs top prospect Javier Baez has turned a corner over the past few days, with Thursday night providing the most convincing evidence that he's back on track.

Baez, ranked No. 6 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and his sixth home run of the season as Triple-A Iowa beat Round Rock, 7-2. Baez's four-hit performance pulled his average above .200 and extended his hitting streak to seven games.

During that streak, the 21-year-old shortstop, who tore through two Minor League levels last season, has hit .429 (12-for-28) with three homers, five doubles and six RBIs while raising his average from .142 to to .201.

Meanwhile, third baseman Kris Bryant, the Cubs' No. 2 prospect and MLBPipeline.com's No. 8 overall prospect, continued to rake for Double-A Tennessee. Bryant reached base five times in the Smokies' 6-5 win over Mobile on Thursday, going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two walks.

Bryant, 22, has hit safely in eight straight games. Overall this season, he's hitting .335/.431/.623 with 12 homers, 12 doubles and 40 RBIs in 45 games.

F-it. Promote them both to the Cubs now. Bryant kicks Schier-doltz out of RF and Baez takes over 2B.

F-it worry about why not later.

Baez would get sodomized by MLB pitching right now IMO.

Sound like a mother hen statement

It's a developmental statement.

He provides no value and needs to learn sequencing and pitch recognition.

Bryant and Baez would both strike out at an incredible rate. At least Baez is walking better this year even though he is struggline.

I have been particularly frustrated with the idea that the sink or swim approach is the only or best way to develop players.

Baez is not ready yet. His BB% is low and his SO rate is high.

Bryant on the other hand 24 BB 174 AB over 10% 56 SO is high but as long as he is taking walks he is understanding the strike zone.

He is at 13 HR's and 42 RBI's. There is no reason not to promote him to Iowa right now. .339/.433/.638 1.071 OPS.

He is crushing that league.
