He has the potential to become a great CF. I wouldn't use any data until he has a full seasons worth of data to work with though.

That stuff is nice and all. All it tells me is he has strong potential. The arm issue is another story. We will see how that plays out. I could see it ending up Almora in CF and Alcantara in LF if Alcantara's arm is on the light side with Schwarber as a full time catcher.

Anything could happen.

Not to rehash the Alcantara thing but I thought this was funny reading bleacher nation

Looks like I'm not the only one using unreliable data.
But the fact that within a couple of days his numbers have gone from below average to elite suggests all the problems with using that data. The awareness around the limitations of defensive data is not out ther. So the assumption of a few games at bats isn't there with a few weeks of defensive data.

He doesnt have a bad arm. He just doesnt know how to use it from the OF. He had a plus arm in the IF. Its there he just needs to learn how to use it and how to properly lengthen his throws. Im not saying he has this cannon since almost no CF in the league has a cannon, but it will play for CF.

Again, we're kind of beating a dead horse here but there's a distinction between what is done and what will happen. To use your analogy from earlier, if a player goes 3 for 4 in his first game in the majors that doesn't mean he's going to hit .750 for his career. However, it does mean he hit well in the game he played. Similarly, the data suggests he played well defensively thus far. That being said, UZR/150 was probably a poor choice to highlight on my part more so than defensive data in general because it projects current stuff over 150 games and with such few games you get the rapid swings even more so than with any defensive data.

CHICAGO -- Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said the front office is currently debating September callups and who will play in the Arizona Fall League. Triple-A Iowa outfielder Jorge Soler is one player being considered for both.

Soler, ranked No. 6 on MLB.com's list of top 20 Cubs prospects, was injured much of the first half of the season, but has been getting regular at-bats, and was batting .300 in 20 games.

"[Soler] has been playing great, and is locked in now, and great at-bats, great attitude, playing good defense," Hoyer said. "We have to decide if he's had enough at-bats or not."

C.J. Edwards, ranked No. 7 on the Cubs' top 20 list, was expected to pitch in the AFL, which starts Oct. 7.

As for September callups, Hoyer said who gets promoted may depend on whether Iowa makes the Pacific Coast League playoffs.

"They worked hard down there," Hoyer said. "We don't want to raid them and leave them with nothing if they do make the playoffs."

Yes because doing well in the PCL playoffs is more valuable than players getting real experience in the majors.

I dont disagree with you but if it wasn't important enough to bring a guy up before September to gain that MLb experience, might as well let him finish the battle with his teammates and try and win a championship.

I think having playoff/championship experience even in minors is almost as valuable as having 20 or so MLB ABs in Sept on a team out of race.

He is on the 40 man. I believe they are using this time to give Lake a final shot to break in at the major league level. Soler getting promoted means he is back in Iowa. And most likely never to return.

Saying they want to give them a shot in the PCL is a way of avoiding the conversation that it is about the clock ticking for some guys. Or that other guys are getting more experience in Milb, even though some fans think those guys are more advanced than some already promoted.

Only fools - (Sox fans) - would read that and think it was really about Milb playoffs.

Soler is on a major league deal. He is on the 40 man already. He has a opt out when he hits arb so keeping him away from super 2 matters. about it.

Top Chicago Cubs prospect Kris Bryant left Saturday's Triple-A game against Salt Lake with an injury to his left big toe.

The X-ray on Bryant's toe proved inconclusive, according to the Cubs. He is slated to have an MRI on Sunday.

Bryant has 40 home runs and 103 RBIs split between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He was the No. 2 overall pick in 2013.
