The Cubs reached an agreement with David DeJesus, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It's a two-year deal, tweets MLB.com's Jane Lee. DeJesus will be the Cubs' regular right fielder.

DeJesus, 31, had a disappointing offensive season for the Athletics after being traded from the Royals a year ago, hitting .240/.323/.376 in 506 plate appearances. In his Royals career, DeJesus hit .289/.360/.427 in 3,799 plate appearances.

Love the move for you guys. Solid player.

Ricketts will have to do better to gain my interest in watching this team this year....not a terrible signing, but not great either

I would of rather had Matt Murton brought back than Colvin anything is an upgrade.

Here's a link to the DeJesus story

I'm going to hope that last year was just a fluke and DeJesus will rebound and have a few productive seasons for us. He's a career .284 hitter with a WAR usually around 3.5. The question is will the Cubs move him to a corner outfield spot or have him patrol center and shift Marlon Byrd over. Either way, I'm excited to have him. Should be a great addition.

The Cubs reached an agreement with David DeJesus, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It's a two-year deal, tweets MLB.com's Jane Lee. The Cubs confirmed the deal on Twitter, noting the inclusion of a club option for 2014. The contract guarantees $10MM, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. DeJesus will be the Cubs' regular right fielder. He makes his offseason home in Wheaton, Illinois, according to the Cubs' press release.

DeJesus, 31, had a disappointing offensive season for the Athletics after being traded from the Royals a year ago, hitting .240/.323/.376 in 506 plate appearances. In his Royals career, DeJesus hit .289/.360/.427 in 3,799 plate appearances. Despite his offensive struggles in 2011, DeJesus was worth over two wins last year according to FanGraphs, partially on account of strong right field defense. He's logged over 1,700 innings at each outfield position in the course of his nine-year career. DeJesus was offered arbitration by the A's last week, so they'll receive a supplemental draft pick in 2012 for their loss.

DeJesus marks the first signing under new Cubs president Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer. The ACES client ranked 29th on our top 50 free agents list, and I'm proud to say I actually predicted this one correctly in MLBTR's contest. With four of ten correct I rank 150th overall; six people are tied with six correct picks.

so basically a left handed Marlon Byrd LMAO AVG at everything... .280 hitter, 10 HR, 50 RBI and dont steal bases.

The left-handed batter and thrower is a career .292 hitter (768-for-2,627) vs. right-handed pitching and has a .345 mark (82-for-238) against National League Central competition. Overall, DeJesus has posted a .325 batting average (150-for-461) in 123 games vs. the National League in interleague play and has a .305 batting average (111-for-364) with a .409 on-base percentage with runners in scoring position and two outs.

DeJesus has posted a batting average of .281 or better in six of his last eight major league seasons, including breakout campaigns with a .293 mark in 2005 and a .295 average in 2006. DeJesus recorded a career-high 36 doubles in 2006, set a career high with 101 runs scored in 2007, notched a career-high 73 RBI in 2008 and totaled a career-best 13 home runs in 2009.

seeing alot of 05's ,06's, and 07's numbers that werent bad. But now Cubs get him in 2012 when he starting to go down hill. Sorry i just dont get it. I would rather see Brett Jackson play everyday then paying AVG guys like him 5 mil

I'm fine with him over Colvin.. (especially even to a thought of Murton :lmao: )

If this forces Byrd or Soriano out and Jackson plays everyday.. Then I'm even more happy with this.

My working theory is that they're going to try to surround Pujols with a bunch of superior defenders who can get on base (assuming Soto hits with power and patience again) and prevent runs while having Pujols knock runs in :D

They can also bid on guys like Darvish methinks. Let's see what happens.
