It was a good pick-up. It's not the splash many prolly wanted, but I'll take it. He doesn'ty K much and the Cubs desperately need that. He didn't have a good year in '11, but look for a better season in '12. Also, he rus the bases good, another thing the Cubs need.

Team Theo know what they are doin', so let them do what they are and have faith in them. Dejesus could just be a mentor player because he does 2 things, the Cubs don't.

Also, this could mean Fonzie is gone and that's good.

Don't like it, unless Byrd or Soriano are shipped off and Jackson plays anyway. That said, I trust Theo and Jed.

Cant have it both ways bro

I don't like the signing, but I trust that Theo and Jed know what they are doing.

I do fear (but know it isn't likely) that this is because they haven't seen BJax enough to feel comfortable starting him though.

How does he improve team over Fukudome last year? Fukudome had better OBP, DEF is about the same, they dont steal bases, they hit around same amount of HR. DeJesus gets more hits but takes less walks then Fukudome. They are the same type of player just DeJesusu making alot less. So doesnt improve team NOW or the FUTURURE! Also im not a huge fan in sabermetrics. You can find faults in all of them. Hard to find faults in stats like AVG, OBP,HR,RBI since they been around for 100+ years

Fukudome wasn't on the team at the end of the year. But.... he improves the team over Fukudome by giving us nearly the same production for nearly 10 MM less. He does improve the team now because DeJesus > Colvin. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of sabermetrics or not. AVG, HR, & RBI all suck as stats. I can find so many flaws in them. AVG is just hitting... it doesn't give any credit to a walk. It also gives a HR and a 2B the same value. HR is just a counting stat. 2B and 3B are valuable too and can show power. RBI is based on who your teammates are and where you hit in the lineup. Doesn't really tell much about skill ergo Casey McGehee.

If Fukudome was making 4.25 mil everyone on here would have loved him. I like OBP alot more then AVG. 2B and 3B can be decieving on power cause a little blooper behind the bags can be Doubles while HR is not decieving

Cubs Sign OF David DeJesus |

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs have signed OF David DeJesus. He’s expected to be the Cubs everyday RF. DeJesus signed a 2 year contract, with a club option. 4.25 million in 2011 and 2012. Also, the option is worth 6.5 million with a 1.5 million buyout.

DeJesus is not the big splash Cubs fans wanted to here, but he would do the job. He can play all 3 OF positions, does not strike out much and is a good base-runner. The last two stick out to me because the Cubs in ’11 struck out a lot and were horrible on the base-path. So…he could be a good mentor to Cub players on how to not run into outs. DeJesus did not have a fantastic season with the A’s last year as he posted a .240/.323/.376/.698 with 10 home runs in 131 games.

This move could mean Alfonso Soriano as a Cub are numbered. The Cubs are shopping him and teams do have intest in him. Team Theo does in fact want to trade Fonize. Also, Byrd could be on the move too. The DeJesus signing can point to many signs.

Jed Hoyer said David DeJesus will not be a platoon player. So…what about Tyler Colvin? Hoyer said he’s not out of the picture, but would have to earn a spot on the team.

David DeJesus name hit the radar a few days ago. David Kaplan mentioned the Cubs are “kicking the tires” on DeJesus and Brunce Levine said DeJesus could be the Cubs signing in free agency.

The soon-to-be 32 year-old (December 20th) made his MLB debut in 2003 with the Kansas City Royals. DeJesus manly has just played on the Royals in his career (2003-2010), before last season where he played for the Oakland A’s. DeJesus’s career stats aren’t bad as he’s posted a .284 average with 71 home runs and 436 rbi’s.

This is not the first time we have heard the Cubs interested in David DeJesus, former Cub GM Jim Hendry was also interested in him, but never made a deal for him. Also, Theo Epstein had interest in him while he was with the Red Sox. So…now he got him.

I actually like the move and think DeJesus will help win ball games in 2012. Also, I expect Alfonso Soriano to be traded and say he’ll be gone by the end of the Winter Meetings (Thursday, December 8th).

We signed him so Campana can steal his wife instead of just bases.

If David ever walks in on the two of them, Tony can just hide under her boobs.

Because, you know, Tony is small and Kim's boobs are big.

From HBT Bargain DeJesus signing a good start for Epstein in Chicago | HardballTalk

Bargain DeJesus signing a good start for Epstein in Chicago

This isn’t the first time Theo Epstein tried to land David DeJesus.

As Boston’s general manager, Epstein attempted to pick up DeJesus from the Royals both before the 2010 trade deadline and again after the season. Epstein missed out both times, though, and DeJesus was instead dealt to Oakland, where he turned in his most disappointing season to date as the A’s primary right fielder.

Of course, Epstein didn’t let that series of events get him down. In fact, he took advantage, signing DeJesus to a two-year, $10 million contract in his new role as Cubs GM. It’s a relative pittance compared to what DeJesus would have received had he instead been a free agent last winter.

And DeJesus doesn’t really seem like much worse of a bet now than he was then. He’s a year older, but at 32, he still qualifies as something of a spring chicken in the Cubs outfield. He should be the best of that bunch, too. DeJesus has a 107 OPS+ over the last three season, compared to 103 for Marlon Byrd and 101 for Alfonso Soriano.

The DeJesus signing does put a temporary roadblock in front of the Cubs’ top prospect, Brett Jackson, but it was already clear that the team doesn’t think he’s quite ready just yet. If Jackson starts demolishing Triple-A pitching, then Byrd could well be moved in June or July. Alternatively, the Cubs can just go ahead and bench or even release Soriano if he doesn’t perform better this year.

DeJesus isn’t the difference maker that Cubs fans are hoping for, but he should have been valued as an $8 million-per-year player and Epstein just bagged him for $5 million. Considering that Cubs are probably more than a Pujols away from winning the NL Central anyway, it’s exactly the kind of move Epstein was smart to start his tenure with.

DeJesus bought a house in Chicago a month ago. The house is in Wheaton. Hmmmm...it seems like him and the Cubs did a good job keeping quiet. Besides the last few days where Kaplan and Levine reported 'bout DeJesus.

Any mention of Brett Jackson's role next year in reports about DeJesus signing?
