They could probably get a lot more production if they promote Olt and Baez, and shit can the rest of them. I'd take both of those guys in the line-up right now.

Olt had a reason for not seeing the ball. Barney sees it, and still can't hit it.

Cut out Barney's eyes and implant them to Olt?

Reports are Olt is past his vision problems.

I do not have a problem with Barney at 2B but in a platoon with Valbuena.

Barney:
LHP: .246/.310/.415
RHP: .194/.251/.264

His 2B D justifies a share of 2B not a full time gig. On a contender he is a UI.

Vizcaino being groomed for the Marmol spot?

Arrieta injured only gives TheoJed a reason to bring in another washed up player.

cubs added a good utility depth in Emilio bonifacio, Arodis Vizcaino is impressing early on and could be used as a set up, and Renteria is looking at Starlin Castro as leadoff man..

Oh thank god!!! Good utility depth and an injury prone setup man!!!! :fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap::fap:

Now all the Cubs need is about six good everyday players and three better starting pitchers to get to be a .500 ball club.

But we look to have that pesky utility guy and setup man problem solved.

I can sleep well tonight. Thanks for the update.

MESA, Ariz. -- Wednesday was the Cubs' first full-squad workout, which meant it was the first day of live batting practice. Nate Schierholtz got to face exactly who he needed in lefty Travis Wood.

Schierholtz is hoping he can convince Cubs manager Rick Renteria to not platoon the outfielder against left-handed pitchers. Last year, Schierholtz batted .262 against right-handers and hit .170 against lefties, part of the reason he had to share right field.

"That's a huge goal of mine, to play every day and not necessarily platoon as much," Schierholtz said Wednesday. "That's one of my big goals this spring."

It seemed fitting that he had to face a southpaw on Day 1.

"These sessions right now are more for pitchers than hitters," Renteria said. "It's a difficult time for the hitters."

When Schierholtz was with the Giants, he recalls Barry Bonds having his own personal batting-practice pitcher who was left-handed. When Bonds stopped playing, that pitcher stayed with the Giants to help. The Cubs do need to find some lefties to throw batting practice to help Schierholtz, Anthony Rizzo and Ryan Sweeney.

"There weren't too many lefties who I had available here," Schierholtz said. "It'll be something I work on a lot this spring, [facing] left-handed throwers. That's the key. Rizzo and I talked about it a lot last year, how we didn't have anyone left-handed to throw to us ever. That's a big gap and hole we had to fill. At least in Spring Training, we can get more work that way."

It would give Rusin a legit reason to wear a Cub uni next year. Batting practice.

Rickets is insulting our intelligence by saying the Cubs are a playoff team. He needs to shut the **** up and figure out how to put a shovel in the god damn ground at Wrigley.

Would guys want Baez to start in the majors this year if he has similar spring training as he did last year?

I expect late June. Just look at his super 2 clock and you will see the date he promotes.

MESA, Ariz. -- For Cubs third-base prospect Mike Olt, his first few swings on Wednesday were perfect.

Olt had struggled with vision problems, and finally got to face a pitcher instead of a coach throwing batting practice or a machine spewing balls.

"For my first at-bats in a long time, it's the best I've ever felt in Spring Training," said Olt, who faced right-hander Neil Ramirez. "I'm not even counting last year, but the year before that. I saw the ball really well."

Acquired from the Rangers in the Matt Garza deal, Olt batted .213 at Triple-A Round Rock last season, but the Cubs feel they've corrected his vision issues. He's now taking allergy medication, which has helped clear things up for him.

Wednesday was his first test against a pitcher.

"I got in the box and I wasn't sure if I was going to swing or not, but I got in there and felt comfortable and saw the ball really well, took a couple swings and I feel like I'm ahead of schedule," he said.

I think he has to see AAA pitching. If he is raking, he will be called up right before July. I dont see a scenario where they let him break camp with the big league club.

by the 2nd half of this season it wouldn't surprise me to see at least 6 of the 8 2015 opening day lineup playing together.
Castillo Rizzo Baez Castro Olt Bryant. .

Baez at 2B and Bryant in OF.

By opening day of 2015 it wouldn't surprise me to see only 3 of those 6 in the major leagues and none of them performing at an even average level for their position.

how is that a lot? castillo rizzo and castro are already up...
olt is a solid ST away from starting at 3B and Baez n Bryant just need to keep playing the way the are to get a July/Aug call up..
3 players not a lot, a 2nd half call up not early if they earned it. more realistic then optimistic. .
