The girlfriend is going to be pissed tomorrow when she wakes up and finds out her favorite Cub has been traded.

Plenty of deals have been "close" and not come to fruition. It will certainly be interesting to see because this is the first real clear signal that they are going rebuild.

True. If they pull this trade and a Garza trade, 2012 is gearing up to be a difficult season to watch.

Reds fans are pissed about trading Wood, and you guys are pissed about trading Marshall for a shitty player.

LOL.

Travis Wood has very good potential. He just hasn't put it together yet.

Yeah, and pigs can fly. They just haven't done it yet.

Yeah if we're talking Wood plus a few specs.. I'm for it.

Seriously.. I like Marshall but he's a reliever.

You have an opportunity to get a potential top of the line starter with half a decade left of club control.

You do this trade immediately.

According to Morosi, he thinks the Reds are also interested in Marlon Byrd.

Byrd, and Marshall for Wood and a prospect is the rumored trade that I saw on another site.

They can have Byrd. Good riddance.

Im really wondering why you guys are freaking out over this...is Marshall a good lefty pitcher? yes

but

we are 2-4 years away from competing for a WS (if everything goes as planned) and why sit on a good pitcher like Marshall when we can get a Lefty starter (something we need more than bullpen help) and 2 minor leaguers which are important to rebuild the farm or to use later as trade bait

It seems like a no brainer to me

I am not a huge fan of losing Marshall as he is our most consistent bullpen option, but perhaps this is the price we pay to get out of this mess.

I would like the trade more if it was

Marshall and Byrd

for

Wood and some upper level prospects.

I wouldnt mind that either

more money off books and good specs

im guessing that the Reds dont want that though otherwise Theo would have done it

Matt Thorton has a good case on that front for the title.

He had a sort of off-year in 2011 but over the course of his career has been better than Marshall...similar number of walks, more strikeouts as well.

I think the case for Venters is strong. But Marshall is among the elite even if he's not the best.

yeah -- I should've said "one of the best"...didn't mean to derail the thread.

No doubt about it. Marshall if great. And as long as Thorton doesn't close, I think he's the best setup man, coincidentally also the worst closer.

For Venters, love to see him repeat this year. If he does, I have no issues putting him on top of the hill
