What a great thread necro. "Hai, guyz. I told you Castro was a bum and I'm bumping this thread to give myself better feelz."

Ah, I see. Evaluating a controversial offseason trade as the season winds down is apparently, in your view, taboo. Makes sense.

Q: What was controversial about it?
A: Nothing.

Not sure what Warren has to do with Castro being a failed MLB starter who somehow cultivated a bizarre throng of irrational defenders.

This must be an awkward and uncomfortable time for them.

A 1fWAR with a month to go is not a failed MLB starter

Since you're evidently unfamiliar with what the fWAR ranges actually mean, I've attached this link for your benefit:

http://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/

Starlin Castro's last 3/4 sub 2.0 fWAR seasons firmly cement him in the "Scrub" to "Role Player" categories.

All the best.

Good to know that "role players" are failures. The Cubs just won a game last night on a hit by a role player.

Failed MLB starter. For your benefit, I've italicized the critical context that you missed.

There are many starters who are "role players". Most players are not stars.

So long as we're watering down definitions to the point of absolute meaninglessness, here's one: Anthony Rizzo is a "role player." His role is to play 1B, play nearly every day, and to hit at the top of the lineup.

So, with a month to go, he has cemented himself as a role player to solid starter depending how he finishes. I didnt know that was a failed major leaguer.

Another 3/4 is all star appearances as a full time player for the Cubs.

Because nothing says "objective valuation of player performance" quite like ballot-stuffing by hopelessly biased fans in favor of their hometown players. Let alone the fact that each team has at least one player elected to the ASG regardless of whether or not they actually deserve it.

Honestly, out of all the arguments that could be made in favor of the value of Starlin Castro, the one you've chosen might be the worst. Congratulations!

He was voted in by the players twice.

That's an equally irrelevant and terrible argument. You were on much firmer ground trying to move the goalposts on fWAR ranges.
Yes. It's a terrible argument because you say so. Did someone run over your puppy today?
