On Happ. This has been posted:

he’s been on an absolute tear this month. In his past 19 games (86 plate appearances), Happ has hit at a superlative .348/.477/.652 with five homers, four doubles and a triple. He’s punched out 18 times in that span (20.8 percent).

So who knows honestly. It might have been hard work and adjustments kicking in here.

I would expect CF 100% here.

No known roster demotion as of yet announcement

Interesting take. Might be the reason Happ was promoted. Showcasing.

Chicago Cubs

What they need:
The Cubs’ needs are no secret. One NL scout said they could use a left-handed reliever, “better than just a matchup type,” as well as another right-handed reliever. The scout said they would benefit from adding another quality bat, whether it’s at second base or in the outfield. One scout also suggested the Cubs could bolster their depth by making a smaller deal for a bench player -- a “utility infielder or reserve outfielder.”

Who they might move: Some of the Cubs’ best assets have Major League experience, as one NL scout suggested they could look to move Kyle Schwarber, Ian Happ, the recently optioned Addison Russell or Victor Caratini in pursuit of upgrades.

What they can get: On the left-handed relief front, one NL scout said the Cubs could pursue anyone from Hand and Smith to Diekman and Roenis Elias. The scout pointed to Shane Greene as a potential right-handed relief target. If they’re pursuing better-known names to improve their lineup, one scout pointed to Whit Merrifield (second base) as well as Nicholas Castellanos and David Peralta (outfield). Eric Sogardand Jarrod Dyson would fit the profile of bench upgrades, the NL scout said.

I would think Collins or Wick take the ride to Iowa. Should be our conceivable playoff roster this series, well other than Nico who will win the job in September.

Maddon is fucking Earl Weaver and doesnt believe in stolen bases

I guess you never watched the Tampa Bay teams he coached.

Cubs just don't have those kind of players, the blame for this goes to Epstein as he came from a Red Sox team that liked to pound the ball off the green monster, and you don't steal bases in front of guys like Ramirez, Papi, Bryant, Rizzo.

What about chasing Bauer and then flipping him to San Diego in the off-season?

Agreed. Absolutely no reason DD should be on the team any longer. He can no longer produce and frankly is a waste on the 25 man roster.
His deal is 1.5 this year, 2.5 next year, 3.25 option for 2021 with a 1 million dollar buyout. DFA is eating that money because nobody will trade for him, they will wait til he clears waivers. The only thing going for us now is a contender might make a deal to have him postseason eligible.

So what it sounds like that this a reaction to Bryant's injury. They are pulling him from OF duty.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Always liked Happ. Too bad about all the K's....switch hitter with power, can run a bit, play multiple positions. More contact and he'd be just what the Cubs need at the top as he's already proven that he can hit MLB pitching off and on....all the strikeouts holding him back. I agree they are probably showcasing him but I'd really like to see him come up hot and make trading him a tough decision.

We will see. I feel that if he produces that he will be treated like Garcia. He will play.

My money is on he starts and leads off today.
I hope he does lead off and is in CF. I believe Garcia should be traded while he has some decent value, he’s just going to strikeout too much and his average will continue to decline. He’s already below .250 after the hot start and I think he’s 1 for his last 11 or so. Use Garcia to get another right handed bat or a
Reliever. He’s not going to be starting at 2b next year and if Zo comes back or Nico gets called up he won’t be starting in September either

Lead off is a bad idea. That is when he started to suck. I would make him hit 8 to start. He takes walks anyways so getting pitched around is not a bad thing.

I would make him off limits now:

Brailyn Marquez sets a record for strikeouts for South Bend since their affiliation with the #Cubs 6 IP 1 H 0 R 0 BB 14 K Ended with 8 straight Ks. Worked in the high 90s with his fastball throughout the game. Slider looked terrific. 71 pitches, 53 strikes.

Agree about Marquez but you didn’t like my assessment of Garcia? The dude is fools gold
Right now.... yeah he has some power but he is going to strike out way too much and there isn’t any room for him to start on this team after this season. He’s versatile but so are about 5 other guys on the cubs now. I will be surprised if Garcia is starting a
Majority of the time from August 1st on and if he is I bet he will be hitting under .220 by early September. Trade him while he has
Decent value and get a good arm in return for him as
Part of a package with one or 2 others
