Well that lead was short lived. Perhaps I should start focusing on putting together my argument for the guy the Cubs should target in the offseason.

Barney with an extra base hit that probably would have been an out if Hart wasn't cheating in on him.

sometimes its good to be a little MI lol...Barney doing well in 8 hole. My only gripe he still goes outside the zone and needs to learn when pitchers are pitching around him to get to SP

I love Fielder, but if I can only have one high price free agent there is another name that isn't being mentioned much (I don't think at all at this forum) that I think would have a bigger impact on the team.

I'm putting together the numbers to make my case for why he would have a bigger effect than Fielder or Pujols right now. If the kid goes down for the night in a half hour I should have it done in a couple of hours.

Anyone see the woman behind home plate rubbing her nipple during Narveson's at bat? It was awesome.

i just started looking at FA list and here what i would do :)

Fielder 1B

CJ Wilson SP 1A

Chris Carpenter ( i would give him 2 yr deal) SP 1A

Keep A-Ram 3B

Nick Swisher RF

My lineup:

Jackson CF

Castro SS

A-Ram 3B

Fielder 1B

Swisher RF

Soto C

Soriano LF

Barney 2B

P

SP 1: CJ Wilson

SP 2: Chris Carpenter

SP 3: Garza

SP 4: Dempster

SP 5: Zambrano

To me thats an impressive SP and nice lineup... Payroll be around 130 - 140 mil

after the SP this year i think those 2 guys in Wilson and Carpenter would be huge for next year. Cant count on Cashner and not fan of Wells

I would love that team d3a, but the payroll for it would put us in Yankees payroll territory. I am running the numbers on salary to confirm that there is really enough to land one big free agent and a little left over to grab a mid range free agent.

from research i have done with Arb guys they will be around 90 mil...if they keep around 130 they should have about 40 mil to spend...yea after i saw what each guy would want Payroll would have to go up and i dont see Ricketts doing that

My figure was closer to 100 million when you factor in the deferred money for Pena which counts towards the payroll next year not this year and Aramis's buyout assuming you don't pick up the option, and I purposely overestimated the arbitration awards to make the figures safe. Anyone know what Samardzija's club option next year is worth. I am just curious because I have to imagine they try to bring him back.

hopefully Pena is traded and wont have to pay the 5 mil :) Samrdzija's option i believe is around 3 mil, i heard talks of declining it and go through ARB with him.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tt7HjIernphaSrv4wMWdUYg&output=html

right now at 72 mil...Figured Garza be around 7.5 mil ARB (hopefully sign him to longer deal), Samardzija lets say 3 mil, Soto 4.5 mil, Baker 1.5 mil, Wells 1.5 mil, DeWitt, 1 mil, so adding those u get to around 78 mil...with A-Ram buyout looking at 80 mil, which i dont count against payroll personally....So to me around 80 mil as of right now so that should leave 50 mil to spend if they keep same payroll

I think Garza gets more than 7.5 million. The other numbers are decent. I could see Baker getting close to 2 million. You also have to factor in the various guys make 500k and it depends on the Pena deferred money. There is some money to play with. My guess is that we could either bring back both Pena/Ramirez or go after one more big free agent and plug the other hole with kids.
