I think Garza gets more than 7.5 million. The other numbers are decent. I could see Baker getting close to 2 million. You also have to factor in the various guys make 500k and it depends on the Pena deferred money. There is some money to play with. My guess is that we could either bring back both Pena/Ramirez or go after one more big free agent and plug the other hole with kids.

i dont want to bring back the same team as this year... To me they need to go after Fielder hard and prolly then Wilson. If they get those 2 then they can fill rest of team up kids or cheap FA

While it would be nice to have dramatic changes, I am not sure that the difference between Fielder and Pena would be greater than the difference between Aramis and Baker/Dewitt/LaMahieu/Flaherty/whoever they had to fill internally at 3B.

The power be about the same but Avg, OPB, and RBI will go up. Fielder is just a clutch hitter while Pena isnt. Cubs need a true 3 hole hitter and not very often is there a 28 y/o slugging 1B on the market like Fielder....after thinking it over i would go after Fielder, Wilson, and resign A-Ram. To me that would make the team alot better and be around same payroll

Jackson CF
Castro SS
Fielder 1B
A-Ram 3B
Byrd RF
Soto C
Soriano LF (even though rumors he wont be around)
Barney 2B

SP 1: Wilson
SP 2: Garza
SP 3: Demp
SP 4: Z
SP 5: Cashner

The big ? is if they release Soriano like rumors are is Ricketts going to count that against the payroll? If so then might as well keep him

I am not saying that Fielder isn't a much better player than Pena, but we are going from above average production at 3B to probably well below average production at 3B. That is the point I was trying to make.

To me A-ram is a no brainer to resign for Cubs. He wants to be a Cub and he still a top 3-5 3B in baseball. i would give him 3 yr 12-13 mil per year deal

Yep if Soriano wasn't on this team we surely would be 20 games over 500 right now.

He is bad at hitting. He does a number of things well and has use when he is making the league minimum. He isn't a building block or a cornerstone player, but he does provide value to this team.
