Why not have a two-man starter slot? Wada for 4 inning and follow up with Wood....next time around reverse them and have Wood start. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box and be a little unconventional....hey, that's what Joe Madden is all about.
I've actually wondered to an extent why this hasn't happened. In the minors you often piggy back starters to save on wear. I can't help but think of really talented guys who end up being middle relievers because they don't have the command to pitch 7 innings. On the other hand, if you had a guy who can give you a very solid 3-4 innings and a second guy who can do the same it gives you an interesting way to manufacture a quality starter.
