Why not have a two-man starter slot? Wada for 4 inning and follow up with Wood....next time around reverse them and have Wood start. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box and be a little unconventional....hey, that's what Joe Madden is all about.

I've actually wondered to an extent why this hasn't happened. In the minors you often piggy back starters to save on wear. I can't help but think of really talented guys who end up being middle relievers because they don't have the command to pitch 7 innings. On the other hand, if you had a guy who can give you a very solid 3-4 innings and a second guy who can do the same it gives you an interesting way to manufacture a quality starter.

This was done before and failed like the pitcher batting eight by Tony LaRussa

I think it's time to put Rondon on Lester's boat and push it into the ocean. They can fuck themselves on whatever island they land.
LOL that's funny but Lester will be fine. The 7 game stretch of solid to good starts was no fluke. He's "overpaid" and not the Cubs best pitcher but good starting pitching with playoff success isn't easy to come by and I'm still glad he's a Cub.

Ball right to him? The ball was slicing away from him and had to leave his feet. That wasn't an easy play at all especially in the fog. It saved the game. He had to sell out for the ball

My bad - I was thinking of an entirely different play. I saw the play you were referring to, and, yes, he saved the day for the Reds.

Nice AB Castro.

OK, he gets the RBI, - thanks to Bryant - but geez-a-lou, he is Mr ground Ball.

"Sounds of lightning off in the distance"

I suppose, technically, thunder IS a sound of lightning.

I hate that MLB delays for 3 hours and resumes the game.

Is it reasonable to expect fans to stick around in the rain for 3 hours plus? That is longer than an average game.

Meanwhile, the game was on Fox, and is not being broadcast now. So losing a lead, in a game that should have already been called, and then not letting me see the damn thing would normally have me ticked off......but with a Game 5 Hawks win, nothing can upset me tonight.

Lol, the ball take a ridiculous hop on Castro. No shot to make the play and the announcer says Castro should have smoothed out the area. Lol What?

Now, he is telling Castro he should be over more. What? He is playing where he is told to play by the head coach. I hate Fox announcers. The worst.

Castro hit the ball above the guys in the infield! Cubs win!

Nice slide by Bryant to put them in that position too

Castro wins it and McCarver says he redeemed himself. Redeemed himself from what? This dude is nuts
