I thought McCaskey ruined the 85 Bears.

Well there is always that, but the events during and following the strike kinda put the nail in the coffin for the 85 Bears.

Any latest updates on whether there's a chance Cutler might play on Sunday?

The commercials have finally driven me away from the Score so I haven't heard anything today.

Bear in mind, on the off chance that Cutler does play, we likely will see a lot of pistol or shotgun and it wouldn't be a good idea for Jay to take drop backs (it is his right leg hamstring btw). This would hinder our running game as forte and our RBs can't get a head of steam, and also affect our play action game. Also, he can't scramble as much. Buuuut, all this considering, our offense would be tenfold better like this than with Clausen in. Here's to hoping he plays.

Score has way too many commercials.

And I'm really sick of hearing that opera lady commercial and Bob ryman.

I hate both of those people very much.

It's insane. Their podcasts for each hour are around 35 minutes, which means that ~25 minutes of each hour is commercials. Repetitive commercials. Like the same 5 on a loop constantly. Either Bob Rohrman's car dealership, some dodgy mortgage broker, or a fucking boner pill or some other worthless medical "product". I had enough. **** it.

Comments by Ditka during the strike calling out the striking players as not true Bears and other issues. This article kinds of speaks to some of it.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-07-05/sports/ct-spt-1987-bears-chicago--20110705_1_spare-bears-replacement-work-stoppage

Oh that garbage?

The players seemed to respond fine the next year when the Bears went 12-4 and Ditka was named Coach of the Year. They also didn't seem to mind him in 1990 and 1991 when he took them back to the playoffs.

I hate that narrative. It runs completely counter to the facts of that occurred.

What killed the 85 Bears not winning more titles:

-Bad QB play/Unimaginative offense
-A meat grinder of an NFC
-Poor drafts/personnel decisions
-Aging veteran core

Really, the only other season IMO the Bears should have gotten to and won the SB was 1987. Laid a turd at home against Washington(QB play) and then the next week would have only had to beat the Vikings to take on the Bronco's.

The other seasons '84,'86,'88, and '90 there's really not much to support that team "should" have won even with some good QB play. They lost to some incredibly dominant teams.

um... did you read the post? first off, i'm a diehard Bear fan, one who is fed up w/the charade that is Jay Cutler.

second, i said he'd run through a brick wall, and has. what i'm talking about is his (IMO, sure) track record of exiting games w/injuries that no one saw, replays could not uncover, or weren't really that bad, because he just F-up again... if you had actually read my post, you'd understand i am pointing to his lack of mental toughness, not physical toughness.

being fed up with or even not liking the team's QB (like i was with Rex, too, but for different reasons) does not mean i can't be a Bear fan... where did that come from?

dude, mental toughness? come on you a shrink, you read minds do ya? So isn't it his mental fortitude that drives his body action to take on a wall? He goes with the receivers in the off season to practice with them. Or the receivers are lying. What is it you feel he isn't doing? How many concussed players play the next game? It is a league friggn rule. Oh no, I forgot, not for Cutler he needs to get his concussed ass back on the field so you feel good he has mental toughness. Your story again, is hilarious. Go Bears. Go Jay and f off with your whiny little bitchy tantrum.

again, reading comprehension much? i said the thumb fracture was legit.

if you're going to debate, you need to read... that simple.
did you see the x-ray? How do you know? Naw, he should have sucked it up and just got his sorry little arse back out to the field for his mental toughness.

what concussion? he's not concussed. he has yet another "alleged" soft-tissue injury.

and again, reading comprehension? i said he is tough physically, as long as things are going well (or well enough that he's not to blame), but is not mentally tough. deliberately running into someone is not the type of mental toughness i'm talking about. the dude has been wholly underwhelming, w/an occasional flash here and there. yes, he's willing to run into and take on a S or CB, but when he's shat the bed, like he did w/the pick 6, i knew he was going to leave the game. turned to my fellow Bear fan and said as much, and moments later, there he goes, never to be seen again, from a friggin' hamstring strain.

you know why? because he was going to be booed and heckled and he knew he had it coming and was deserving of it. he ran and hid, as he did in the other situations i named... it's what he does.
