Im pretty sure he's the starting LT next year.
Bears fans just think every player on the bears is the worst in the NFL at their position.
Very few bears fans actually pay attention to other teams OL's. There is a lot of bad tackle play out there. Braxton/Wright are a solid pairing if you heavily invest into the interior. The problem this year was injuries and the center/right guard being ass.
You hit the nail on the head with that last part. I would love to see Braxton at LT with a reliable LG next to him (Trey Smith), but we just haven't seen that since we drafted him.
Now, am I a big Braxton fan, honestly not. If he was coming out of college today, knowing what we know now, I think I would still take about 3 or 4 other LT's in the draft than Braxton Jones (I just think their ceilings are higher).
Really, the first 3 picks of this year's draft for the Bear are predicated, IMO, on if they can sign Trey Smith AND is Braxton Jones the long term answer at LT.
- If the answer to both is YES, then at #10 we are probably picking the best defensive linemen available. Then in the 2nd round, we are looking at the interior (Jackson from Ohio State or the kid from Bama if he falls) and then I would still like to see us grab the Center from Georgia at some point
- If the answer is NO to both or No to only one of them, then at #10, we are taking a LT and will also take another linement (or we should) with one of our 2nd round picks.
Now, there is also a world we live in where we sign Trey Smith, believe that BJ is our long term LT and still draft O-line at #10 and move that pick inside and say "**** it" we are going all in on building a dominate o-line..
