My opinion: Misleading someone into thinking something different via omission of fact, isn't the same as a lie.

Sure. Happens in poker all of the time. It is called a bluff:)

Lawyers are paid to mislead people all of the time. One guy even got impeached and disbarred because of it:)

She didn't necessarily deceive you. Your own perception did. To deceive someone is to make them believe something that is not true. In other words, a lie. Now, if she really does go overboard in hitting on you and seductively says let's go to my place and then screams rape the minute you touch her, safe to say she did intentionally deceive you and was lying when she showed she had any interest in you.

Careful, Spartan, you are headed into uncharted waters. You could be banned for saying such things. I did:(

Tell the IRS it wasn't a lie... Just a little deception. I'm sure they will get the difference.
Same in court may apply.

Lying always = Deceiving

Deceiving not always achieved by Lying.

That would be my contention.

You're wrong still and I'm sorry to have to say it.

Think of the example before where you were misled. She did not deceive you nor have any intention to. But surely you've heard the expression "you're lying to yourself". This would be exactly the case. You misread and, as such, lied to yourself. Your own lie was the cause of your deception. To deceive is to misrepresent the truth in order to gain some personal advantage and any misrepresentation of the truth is a lie. And whether you were deceived by someone else telling you a lie or you're just lying to yourself, the root of the deception is still based on a lie.

I consider you 100% wrong on this.

Take sarcasm as a different case I sarcastically say "Yes I would LOVE to go to Protein Bar for lunch" and someone doesn't realize my sarcasm and thinks I want to go there.

They come to me at lunch time and go "Ready to go to Protein Bar?" and I say "Oh no, I was not being serious".

They were deceived by my sarcasm, I did not explicitly lie to them or intend to mislead them, it doesn't change the fact that they were deceived by something other than a lie.

There is plenty of nuance in human communication both verbal and non-verbal that goes well beyond a black-and-white definition for deception.

You don't have to agree with me, but I in no way accept your position as correct on this.

Would the person that asked you be the one that deceived himself/herself?

While being sarcastic, you know you are lying and not representing the whole truth so they were still deceived by your lie.

Trust me, Prez, I'm right as rain on this one.

So all sarcasm = lies.

Everything is black-and-white.

No, you are wrong.

No I would say my sarcasm deceived the person into thinking something that was untrue.

A lie was not explicitly told by me, but the way I communicated deceived the person into thinking something that was not true.

As I've said a lie cannot just be any time someone happens to think something that is not true, a lie needs to be explicit by the actor telling the lie.

Lies are a common method of deception, but not all deception is carried out via a lie.

Fact still being even if they don't pick up on the sarcasm, a lie was still told and the fact it was told sarcastically does not make it any less of a lie. You have too much politician in you already, you are lying about lies.

So in this scenario of "I would LOVE to go to Protein Bar" said sarcastically one can go one of two ways in interpretation

1) Ares is lying by being sarcastic

2) Ares is not lying because sarcasm is not lying

Depends on how you define sarcasm in terms of lying.

If I tell you the sky is going to fall today, I expect you to believe I'm not serious but whether you take it seriously or not, it is still a lie cause the sky is not going to fall today. ..... maybe tomorrow but definitely not today.
