That's probably why I don't like it so much. Too much flair and sparkles for one game for my taste buds. For football that single game of events and celebration works. For hockey it just sits odd with me now. I don't like how the outdoor game transfers over to television either, it doesn't feel right or look right. Live though I bet it's amazing.

Playoff hockey is when I feel hockey is celebrated most and best. There is nothing like hockey playoffs in any pro sport. It's like a month and a half of Superbowls. But if the outdoor game is drawing new viewership and interest then I am all for it. Just don't care to watch it.
especially for a game that is for all intents and purposes meaningless. I get that the points are important, especially in the division (not sure how much that changes next year? Still foggy on all that) and the rivalry and such. But this game in the middle of the season, on the biggest college football day of the year? I just think it's kind of dumb. I wish they could find a way to do it to open the season, or maybe close the season? Weather might not accomdate then but that can be fixed I'm sure. And of course if you do it at the end of the season and put some meaning on it, then you can't have the officials manipulate the outcome like they like to do.

Rangers and Kings played a game in Caesar's Palace parking lot when it was 85 degrees out.

Careful what you say-a comment like that cost Torts 30 K

Flyers fans attack Rangers fans after game:

http://www.myfoxphil...ers-fans-010412

It's just a game Focker.

One of those Rangers fans was an off duty cop.

Who knows how it really started, and there was bound to be something of this sort after that game.

It appears that one of the Flyers fans went on a message board to brag about the altercation. The police found him.

Tortz in NHL doghouse

9:38AM ET

John Tortorella | Rangers

UPDATE: John Tortorella has been fined $30,000 by the NHL for his comments regarding the officiating in Monday's Winter Classic.

As reported by ESPNNY.com's Katie Strang, the head coach of the New York Rangers apologized for his words.

"I tainted the Winter Classic with my mouth and I shouldn't have," Tortorella said. "So I apologize to everyone involved." (Full apology available here)

Taking the head coach's "fiery" nature into account, TSN's Darren Dreger suggested Tortorella could hit the $100,000-fine mark before his NHL career concludes.

The ever-outspoken John Tortorella may be forced to dip into his own pocketbook for speaking, uh, candidly about the officiating during Monday's Winter Classic.

According to Katie Strang, multiple sources have told ESPNNewYork.com the head coach of the New York Rangers is likely to face a fine for his comments that included use of the "D" word.

ESPN's Katie Strang

"... Tortorella called the officiating 'disgusting' following his team's 3-2 win over Philadelphia on Monday at Citizens Bank Park and questioned the crew's agenda. 'They're two good referees, [but] I thought the game was reffed horribly,' Tortorella said of Ian Walsh and Dennis LaRue. 'I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe they wanted to get it to overtime. I'm not sure if they have meetings about that or what, but we stood in there ... that third period, it was disgusting' ..."

As far as the philly fans and fighting goes. I think they should start knocking these up to hate crimes. It's just as motivated as anything racial. These things are getting out of control no matter how they are started.

Well Torts just spoke the truth... can't blame him for that. The officiating was "disgusting".

Never thought I'd hear that from the "winning" coach.... That's the funny part of all this.
